Default Tons of questions before I go crazy

I found out I had PCOS about a month ago. I am overweight (sorta) acne, weird hair growth, not TTC. The dr has put me on 1000 mg of metformin. Now I am extremely exhausted (before I found out I was tired for sure but this is different). Now I am also extremely moody. I just got my period and I honestly am so moody I don't want anyone around me. I attribute this to maybe my hormones are changing to get back in check? Can I expect to feel different any time soon. I have been on the met for 3 weeks and this is my first period since I have been on it.

I know that when I first started met, I was really tired too. From what I have read, that is normal. Your body will adjust and pretty soon you will be back to normal. As for the hormones, it could be that they are trying to regulate. I get pretty moody before any period, so that could be it too.

I've been on Met a little over 2 weeks and think I'm going thru like the worst pms of my life. I haven't started yet but I have been on edge for days. I don't have any answers or advice for you, just thought I'd add a sympathy post. ;-)

That is exactly the words I would use. "one edge". I was like that too as well before I started and on into it. All I can attribute it too is hormones changing. When I went to the dr. they said I had high levels of androgens and maybe they are coming down. I do know the acne seems slightly better, but this mood is something. I want NO ONE AROUND me and I am super tense.

That's exactly what's happening. You are probably going through a sort of downregulation of certain hormones, and its just throwing you for a loop.
I found when I started Met, that I had to be super vigilant to make sure and eat a good protein snack every couple of hours for the energy and moodiness. I was a raving witch, if I went more than 4 hours without anything in the beginning, so I started to carry protein bars, or little packets of almonds or pecans with me in my purse so I wouldn't freak.
It does get much better though.

I actually had insomnia when I started the met. It went away after a week. I haven't had any mood swings but i'm also still on bcp's so I think that might help. I have learned the combo of bcp and met makes AF alot lighter

omg finally! I was starting to worry about why i was having naps most afternoons!
So its from the Metformin? I've been on it about 2 weeks now,850mg a day.Dr wanted me to do two day coz apparently "the runs wont kill you!"...but i knew better & have been doing only one a day...until yesterday! omg,i thought,ok i've been feeling pretty good (apart from the sleepiness) so i took my second Met in the arvo for the first time & wow...i felt awful after dinner! This morning i still felt awful, very sluggish & sick & just 'out of it'...so i think i will wait a few more weeks before i go up to two a day.I LEARNT MY LESSON! lol... but back to the subject lol, sleepiness is a common Met side effect? Im not a napping type of person & all of a sudden i would be straining to keep my eyes open & would HAVE to take a nanna nap...thank god for this site! xox

Thanks for your responses. I will start carrying around some protein bars, I think that is a great suggestion. I am not a big eater, never really have been and I think this eating so often is just not something I have embraced fully. I am going to try that and some really hard workouts. I am hoping that will release some of this major tension I got going on...I just wish I wasn't so tired, but I know once I get going it will happen.

Hey eveyone. Thought I would update you guys and let you know, I don't feel as tired today or yesterday. I did sleep most of the weekend, but feel better this week. Thankfully. My acne still is hanging around but looks as though less of it and I have lost 3 lbs by basically not doing much at all. I am not really eating bread, but last weekend had crazy cravings and had fastfood twice. I really think I feel better when i up the protein and leave off all bread. I guess hormonally I still feel a little shaken up, but I am right at 4 weeks now on met and that is the only treatment I am using at this point. I am thinking of bc but not sure. I am totally just relieved to be getting some energy back and hopefully my face may be starting to clear up (it has been years since I have not suffered with acne.).

CA: I am glad to hear that the sleepiness has gone away. I started 500 mg Metformin XR on Friday and this past weekend I was SOOOOOOOO exhausted and out of it. My boyfriends parents came into town and I was only able to make it to lunch, and even then, I was "out of it" the whole time. So far its not too bad this week. I haven't upped my dosage yet, which I am worried might make the sleepiness worse :-(
