Default Too Much Sugar=Vomitting

Just wondering if anyone else feels very nauseous or even vomits if they have too much sugar or sweetners while taking Metformin.

I have been on Metformin ER 1500 mg. since 04/06 & it seems like if I eat too many sweets or use too much Splenda in a day I get really nauseated & sometimes even vomit. Any thoughts or advice?

Oh yes! Only it isn't the sugar or sweetners that do it for me. It's too much grease. Now the smell of grease makes me nauseous. I just stay away from grease if at all possible.

I only vomitted once...it was from eating pizza and dessert at a restaurant...so fat and sugar. And it was when I first increased my dose.

I wake up very nauseous when I eat sugary foods the night/day before, but I haven't had to vomit.

LOL @ Met Revenge - that's a good name for it!!

My RE told me that Met makes it hard for your body to absorb sugar and sugar substitutes, which is why sugary foods make you sick - since your body can't absorb the stuff, the body expels it the next best way (by vomiting or diahreah)

Yes, you are supposed to avoid alcohol while taking met. Met is hard on the liver so when you add alcohol to the equation it tends to make you sick faster since your body has a hard time processing it.

I've been getting sick as well. I initially started on reg Met 1000mg and was just having to go to the bathroom all of the time. Now I'm on XR Met 1500mg and have vomitted 3 times (morning) in the past week. Last night DH and I went to eat at a restuarant and I ordered chicken fried steak. Bad choice I know. Anyway, I took literally one bite and was nauseous. I had to take the rest of it to my dog.
