Question Too much Vitamin C

Has anyone heard that if you take supplemental Vitamin C it can cause miscarriages?? If so, how much is too much?

The only side effect that I am familliar with when too much vitamin C is consumed is diarreah. The body rids itself of the excess. It doesn't accumulate in the body.

Post well....

ttrumps,

I posted a reply regarding vitamin c in a postive light in this thread:
http://www.soulcysters.net/showthrea...threadid=56862

However, if you scroll down you will find a link to another posting where some women express some negative views on vitamin c.

Hope this helps,

The amount of vitamin C needed to even cause some stomach upset is massive. In fact, it's called taking it to "bowel tolerance" and it can exceed 5000mg at a time. The vitamin C in a multi, or even in a chewable, is not enough to do a lot to the body, and what is not used will be eliminated..

As with all things, do not overdo it. An orange a day, and a glass of cranberry juice, will give you lots of C.

I always thought that they body always exspells any unnecessary amounts of vitamins. And that it wasn't harmful if you were take too many vitamins.

Vitamin C is water soluble so it is excreted in your urine as you take it - it is NEVER stored in your body. Vitamins usually fall into one of two groups - fat soluble or water soluble. I forget the name of other water soluble vitamins. The B Vitamins are oil soluble and in extra large doses can cause problems.

Sorry for the Nutrition 101 class.

Slightly off the Vit. C track - but - isn't it Vit. A that causes birth defects if consumed in large quantities? I read that in some glossy magazine - and wondered if it is true?

Yes Vit A is another that can be built up in your system if you take it in super large doses - more than the regular person will usually take!
