I started taking Met on 11/27. The Dr wants me to get tested for my IR again this month. I would like to get tested on 1/15 again - and also get my progesterone tested again - to see if I ovulated. Would it be too soon for me to also ask for an ovulating inducing drug if I don't ovulate this cycle?
You know, I dont have an "educated" response to that but just what I think, from my experience. I started taking Metformin in October (three months) ago. Just a month after putting me on Metformin, my doctor put me on Clomid. Two cycles of clomid failed to make me ovulate. Now the doctor has given me a break from clomid... says we should let Met do it's work independently for a while... and personally, I think the clomid came too soon.
I don't know about the physiological damage it could've done... but believe me, the emotional damage is huge. When the ultrasound puked words like "multiple cysts" and "no mature follicle" on my face last week, I don't know how to explain what that did to me. I know it's not like I've been treating my pcos for years... it only got diagnosed four months ago. But the nightmare of Met's side effects, having no weight issues and still refraining from goodies... seeing all my friends with babies or something in the oven ... and still come home with a medical report like that.
Don't take my word for it - I guess my response is just worthless catharsis anyway...
Thank you for your response - I'm sorry about what happened. I guess I should probably get at least one U/S to see if I even have any cysts at this point as well.
too soon for met in most circumstances... you're supposed to give it at least a full 3months and in some cases doctors wait 6...dont rush it because like the other lady said, it could drain you if results dont come when u want them 2
Thank you for posing this question. I have been wondering the same thing. I started Met in October 07 and wondered if I should ask for the Clomid soon. My doctor said she wanted to wait 6 months before going onto Clomid as well. I think I better wait it out. It is such a roller coaster some days. Met helped me get AF in Nov and Dec so I thought it would keep happening like clockwork each month. Now it's a week late again. Took a HPT yesterday and it was a BFN. UGGGHHH!!!!!! It's like one day I'm hopeful and the next day discouragement. It can be so aggravating sometimes. Guess we all have to hang in there. Thanks again for this post!

I started Met in October also, and no luck here. I already did Clomid with no luck. We were going to give Met 12 mos and then try adding injectables, but we just talked the other day and decided that in 6 mos we'll go back to the RE to check in and see what he thinks.
In the meantime, we're going to keep trying

I was on Met for two months, and when that didn't produce O on its own, my doctor added Clomid on the third month. I O'ed late that cycle, but did get pg!
Good luck! Don't hesitate to ask if you think you are ready and it's needed!
