Soooooo I have lots of hair on my chin and mustache area.....well all over my face actually. Come to think about it, I have a very hairy face. Lately thou, some of the hair is turning dark......underneath my eyes where my cheeks start, above my adam's apple, my chin and mostach, and come if it has turned from dark to darker and COURSE. I would usually just pluck out the dark and course ones, but it's getting too time consuming. Any advice? Should I just shave it instead of plucking it? ANd this may be a silly question, but if I do shave it....will I get razor burn like a man, and if so what do you do....use aftershave?

have you tried cream? Like nair, or something? I did try a lot, but was alergic to them all. Now I do shave my face, just wondering if the cream was an option for you.
Eva
I shave my face every day. I refuse to pluck because it's painful & it would take way too long. I've never gotten razor burn on my face, but my skin gets red & bumpy under my chin cause the hair there is so coarse I have to keep scraping at it. Though with new blades this doesn't happen. There's a razor with a piece of soap by the blade - I can't think of the name of it right now but I like that one a lot. It's gentle & gets all the hair off, even under my chin. I never use disposable single blades, because I always cut myself when I used it & now I have a permanent scar on my chin from it. Now that I think about it, my skin got very irritated with a single blade, so I would avoid those, especially if you have acne.
I've used depilatories, too. They're good, but they don't work for me on my coarse hair. And if I leave it on one second more than I should my skin gets bright red & shiny. So for now, I'm sticking with shaving. It takes less than one minute every morning & it's not expensive like some creams can be.

I know you don't want advice from your big sis, but here it is anyway! Put it off as long as you can!!!!! When I began shaving, even the finer, lighter hair got coarse vey quickly! I'm sad that it has come this far for you! I've cried many tears over the fact that you've had to follow me down this road. That said, I don't know how closely you've studied my face, but I get razor burn and cuts all the time. My skin is EXTREMELY sensitive, and with genetics and all, yours is too! I use a good razor, and shaving foam, but I still have problems. If this laser doesn't take care of the rest of this stubborn hair, I am going back to plucking. I'll be darned if I spend my life shaving more than DH!!
The only place I get razor bumps and ingrowns are under my chin. Theres products out there specifically to treat that , like skin doctors 'Ingrow go", or the one im testing out now is the new NADS lotion for razor burn and ingown hairs. Im pretty happy with that so far abnd its a bit gentler that the others Ive tried .

Thanks for all your responses! Eva, cream may be an option....know of any besides nair? I've used it on my legs before and it's really itchy. I could'nt imagine putting it on my face.
Disco75- I know the razor you speak of, I can't remember the name of it either, my sister gave it too me once. I t is very soothing (on my legs and underarms) but it doesn't get very close.
And of course....Missy.....all I can say is I love you and I'm still full from yesterday.....enjoying the beer bread and garlic dip??!!!
Rach....where can I purchase Nads? Sounds like I should give it a try.
Hayles...I've thought about waxing it too....I've never waxed any areas or had any waxed for that matter. I guess I've been too wimpy.
Well.....I've gotten a few good ideas. I was looking in the mirror tonight and I have sooo much visible hair....it's blonde right now because I plucked earlier today. I will surely have stubbles by morning. But even though all the black, course hair is gone at the moment from plucking....you can still see long blonde hair on my chin....but WHATEVER, right???!!! I'm so sick of stressing about this. I need to get back to the GYN ......
Thanks again cysters!

I've tried everything except laser/electrolysis (can't afford 'em yet) and shaving is the only thing that works for me at this point.
If you're going to shave, my advice is to exfoliate, exfoliate, exfoliate. It helps get rid of dead skin, soften up the hairs and prevent ingrowns. Also use something to lubricate your skin for shaving - I personally like sorbolene soap, but shaving gels and even hair conditioner work well.
I use hair clippers (typically for cutting men's hair). You get the benefit of getting all of the hairs, but not the thicker stubble results.

Thanks ladies! I exfoilate now with St. Ives facial Scrub for sensitive skin. I have the oily, pimply, blackhead, and also dry combo skin. It's sooo fun, not.
Dh and my sis keep telling me to put shaving off as long as possible. But I have sooo much hair I tell them!

tina75 - do clippers get right close to the skin? I'd have thought they'd leave prickles - they seem to when I shaved guys heads with them (I'm always the designated hairdresser among my clippered friends).
Yes, you would use the clippers w/o a plastic guard. As long as you keep them sharp, you should get a smooth "shave". You might get a soft peach fuzz feeling but IMO, is well worth not having the hair nor negative effects of actual shaving.
Also, I would suggest doing it at night time. I have done it before running out the door before, but on occasion I've had a couple of red areas under my skin from where my skin is sensitive. Not razor burn or anything like that, just from where I wasn't keeping it was sharp as it should be.
Something else I use is cuticle scissors. You can get very close. Excellent for trimming upper lip and side burn areas.

I have been shaving since I was 14 (and I am 42 next month) and had a few razor burns and barbers rashes in my time. Thank god when the aloe strips etc came in on razors. When I choose to shave I wash my face with Dove wash or something similar, I too have very sensitive skin. Then apply the shaving gel, which I prefer to foam, again sensitive skin gel. I use the Schick Quattro which gives me a very clean shave, and have never had razor burn or barbers rash from it. After rinsing off my face I get a face cloth run it under hot water wring it out and put it on my face. After drying I use an aftershave balm or moisturiser, I find the mens ones less greasy than the ladies moisturiser, and if I can it will be a sensitive skin one. My facial hairs have been thick and black since i was 14, now they are just white/gray. Wet shaving for me has always been the best option, I had 1 electric razor for sensitive skin which was recommended to me by a friend of mine, so I got one and he was right it was fantastic, but it only lasted about 2 1/2 yrs which was a shame.
