Default Took Provera but still no period...

I had been having semi-regular cycles after taking Met for awhile, but I had a stressful couple of months and AF went missing in action again...

I took a pregnancy test and it was negative, so I started Provera.

This is only the fifth day since I took the last pill, but I don't see any AF coming! My face did break out, which is a usual sign of AF - but my nipples are usually really sore and they're not at all sore right now.

I know it can take up to 14 days for AF to come, but it's always come within a day or two for me before. So I'm kind of worried!

Any thoughts or suggestions? Should I keep waiting? Try another round of Provera?

Has anyone else gone on to have a normal AF that took awhile to come? Especially after previous quick responses to Provera.

Thanks for any help!

When I was taking provera, sometimes it would come in 3 days, once it took 21 days. No idea why. I called my RE and he said it depends on how my body was responding. Give it a while longer and see what happens. Good luck! jamie

Thank you both for responding!

I was just a little freaked out, you know, when it didn't come like normal. But no reason to worry, good old AF showed her face this morning. While I was at the gym, no less - she's got SUCH good timing.

If anyone searches on this question in the future, don't worry if you think the Provera isn't working. Chances are that AF will come in a few days!

Just wanted to add my two cents...

I always have to go on Provera to bring on AF. Every time I'm on it, it takes 10 to 12 days for AF to show up after the last pill. Hang in there if you're on Provera and AF hasn't shown up. She most likely will.

Another thing...I get NO cramps or signs she's coming. She just shows up out of nowhere. Also, when she does show up I usually just have very light brownish-red spotting the first couple days, slightly heavier brown-red 'stuff' the next couple days, and then back to the very light brown spotting the last couple days. I was told by 2 doctors that a spotting-type of AF is very common in periods brought on by Provera.

Hope this helps!

Janice

Question

Just reading this tread and it sounds like you have to come off provera before af comes to town. This is my first time on it, and I'm a little confused. I'm on day 6. My doc said to take it for 5 days and if it didn't come take it for 10. She didn't say anything about it coming after I stopped taking it. And the genius in all of this is that she is out of town, so I have no way of asking her!! Do I need to stop taking it for af to come? Someone please help me!! This stuff is giving me real bad moods, body cramps, you name it, I've had it. I'd love to come off of it.

Talking thanks!!

Thanks so much for your help. I think I'll just stop today and see if she comes. But how long should I give af to come before I start next round?

just wanted you to know that after 11 days of stopping my last dose of provera af came. and boy did it come! i have never had cramps like this in my life! granted, my last flow was 5 months ago but it is coming long and strong for me....
now i am loading up on my motrin... and overnight pads!

just wanted you to know that it will come, i guess it just takes your body a while ro realize its not there or something,( i dont know, i have no theory to prove that, just guessing)
but it looks likes 2 weeks in the maximum... chill out for now... and call your doctor when she gets back in town if it doesn't come by then...

i thought mine wasn't coming...

anyway, keep us posted!

Unhappy

I stopped provera last night, now the waiting game. I've heard about bad cramps with provera. I am not looking foreward to those!! My last af was in November, so maybe it won't be that bad. I don't see how they could be worse than the one's that I have had in the past. The longest that I have went without af was 6 months, but it came back on it's own. That was about 10 years ago, before I was diagnosed. Hum. . . seems like they would have diagnosed me then . . . Anyway thanks for the concern and I'll keep you posted.

Default Thanks!

I'm in the process of taking Provera now. This will be my 4th day and I have one more day to go before stopping the pill. It's my first time with Provera to bring on AF and I was wondering the same thing. Thanks for all the information, this message board is a wealth of knowledge.
I'm only on a 5mg dose for 5 days. Is this a typical prescrption? I've seen women take 10mg for 10 days. I guess we're all different for a reason. I hope this is all I need to feel "normal" again.
Wish me luck!

Default Provera??

Ladies I have a question, I asked my RE to give me provera, because I yuo can see from my chart, I was on cycle day like 5o something. Well, i took it on January 22 to the 31st, of January. I have a really dumb question...look at my chart. My temps are up totally, and I am so confused. They went up like day 4 or 5 after starting the provera, which I know is from the progesterone, but why are they still high? My boobs were so sore, for like 5 days, and are slowly getting better. Anyone understand this? The provera days are marked with an * on my chart, and the X's are just Met. Any help would be great! I did have some spotting on Jan 8 through the 16th, but it was so minimal, I didn't even have to wear anything for it.

Jamie - Have you take a hpt? Spotting can be implantation bleeding, which would go along with your late period, sore boobs, and high temp.

Did you look at that chart? Isen't it weird? I took one before I started the provera because my RE just called it in for me. It was neg, so I started the provera. FF had given me a coverline some time ago, like 3 weeks, but they changed it to like 9 days ago, because of the temp spike. I assumed it was from the increase in testosterone, so I just ignored it. But shouldn't they have gone down some by now? I don't know, I have never temped while taking provera or after it. Should I wait a few days since it says I am only 9 dpo? I am confused about this dang thing! : )
