Default Took Provera and now AF is REALLY REALLY BAD?

Is this normal?

I mean...not to be graphic but (TMI) I have been going through SUPER Tampons every hour and they are FULL ...

Do any of you ladies get this after taking Provera for 10 days?

Mind you..I haven't had a full AF since Jan 09

I have taken that before and had a very bad AF. But if you are bleeding that much, you need to call your Dr. A pad or tampon an hour is too much!

When I took Provera I had the most intense period I've ever had. Heavy bleeding, major cramping, lasted about 10 days.
Wouldn't hurt to call your dr. and just double check! It sounds a little heavy!

Last time I took Provera I bled like crazy too...soaking a super tampon and a pad every hour or so...it was HORRIBLE!! The worst thing was that it still didn't get rid of everything and I had to have a D&C :-P

I would still call your doctor just to be on the safe side!

BTW I'm on day 6 of this round of Provera and you reminded me to STOCK UP on everything lol

Hi Ladies!

Thnx for the replies!
Well AF is gone now
It last about 6 days ..just a hard 6 days and I will assume its because I hadn't had an AF in about 7 months so at least I was able to release a lot hehe

Now I just need to remember to start temping to see if I will actually ovulate!!

Great info! I came here to ask this same question. I hope I'm lucky enough to have AF for only six days =)

I'm having the same problem! I have had spotting/bleeding for over a year! (ever since they gave me provera to induce AF) Well, my dr gave me provera to "reset" my body and it made me super heavy right away. Every day is heavier than before, I finished the 10 days of provera 3 days ago and I am still bleeding so heavily that I can't seem to keep it under control. I use diva cup and I'm bleeding 1 oz every 1 to 2 hours. I just had blood drawn today to see if my blood count is low. I don't know what to do, I just want it to stop.

When I go more than 8 weeks or so between AFs, my next one will be super heavy for a few days. I think it is just a build up of endometrial tissue from not having AF regularly. I have never gone 7 months without AF, but I would think it would be worse the longer you wait.

Ok ladies I need your help! My cycle has been normal for the past 18 months or so, usually every 34 days. In Aug, I started spotting a week before, thought not much of it, a little stressed out at work, I do sometimes spot before, no biggie. Well, day 1 finally arrived and holy super tampons! Very heavy, and very thick lining. This continued FOR THREE WEEKS. At which point I called the dr and said WTH? Blood tests, ultrasounds etc, and she says well the PCOS (my diagnosis was two years ago, no meds just some herbals and diet to control) is kicking you in the but and your thyroid is acting up. Let me give you some provera to get your cycle regulated. That was on Sept 10. I continued heavy bleeding (changing tampon or pad every two hours) for a week, at which point I called and said ok, what now, she said double the provera dose. Did that. Still heavy, lining is now even thicker. She says ok, well your almost at the end of your 14 days so lets just continue with the cycle. Day 14 and all hell breaks loose. I feel like I'm having a baby, all day, every day! Super Plus Tampons, one every two hours, and they are "loaded". This is day four of no provera, and I feel like there are some giants hands squeezing my ovaries and uterus! I have never experienced anything this painful before, advil does nothing. They found a cyst and a polyp in my ultrasound but wanted to do nothing, let nature take its course. Do any of you have any ideas to help me get through this? I want to scream and as a single mom, my teenage daughter doesn't even want to be in the house with me! Thanks for listening ladies, and for any advice!!

Hi Jen, I've been having a very similar issue. The provera made my bleeding and cramping a thousand times worse and it was so bad I couldn't even go anywhere. My dr. gave me a pack of bcps to take for one month. The brand is femcon. I'm on the 5th day of them, and the bleeding just came almost to a complete stop last night. So far today, AF is almost completely gone!!! She did say that if that didn't work, I would have to get a DNC.

Kichi, thanks for your post. It helps to know I'm not alone. I'm just tired of the bleeding. I spoke with the doctor yesterday, who reassured me that this is part of the process and that there must be a lot in my uterus if I'm still bleeding like this. She said that if it continued past 10 days we would have to do something else. She also said if I appear to be hemoraging I should go to the emergency room. Hello? how could one tell at this point?! If this does not stop by Friday I am going to mention the bcp's to her and she what she says. I may also mention the D&C becuase it seems that quite a few women who bled this long had the most success after a d&c. (Including some women here at home that I've spoken with about their premenopausal times). Again thanks for the post, please keep me posted on how your doing!

I'm on day 11 and the bleeding is finally under control I know my lining was thick with the u/s before taking the provera but geezzee it would have been nice if I was told this could happen. The bleeding was super heavy for 8 days straight. The last three days I have to say were the worst...I couldn't stand up without needing to go clean myself up and change the pad. Hopefully the bleeding will be completely gone in the next couple days. I will be going for another u/s to make sure the lining is back to normal ...I will also get to give my dr an earful

I had very heavy bleeding with Provera as well. I actually panicked and decided to go to ER. However, they just advised me to rest and take it easy. It was nothing to worry about.
Next time, when my doctor prescribed Provera, I asked him if there is any other similar medication that I can try.
He put me on Aygestin. I got an absolutely normal period with Aygestin.
Since then, I have always asked for Aygestin. I recommend that you ask for doc for Aygestin instead. You wouldn't regret it!

Twilight and Babyhope, thanks so much for posting your experiences! I spent the last two days at home, resting, because the doctor suggested it would be good for me. The more rest, the less bleeding, but if I got up to do anything, oh yeah, right back where I was. So yesterday she decides ok, forget holistic care for the moment, lets put you on the pill until the bleeding stops. So, I'm on BCP's, 2 a day until 2 days after the bleeding stops, then finish the pack and hopefully get a period. I have no doubt that will be a killer period, because my lining was o thick this time. I too couldn't stand up without rushing to a bathroom to clean myself up.

Today it seems to be slowing down, I'm still having a lot of cramping and the BCP's make me nauseaus. But if I stop bleeding it will be well worth it! I'm still taking the supplements she started me on a week ago, so we'll see how things go. Babyhope, I think I may ask about the alternative to provera at my next visit! Thanks so much!
