I recently had a reaction to my medication Avalide 300/25. My face developed a rash and became red and splotchey. Also my arm was really red and inflamed and I developed sores on my tongue. My dr took me off of that today and prescribed Toprol-XL 50mg and said if 50mg is not enough to take 100mg daily. The problem is, i have heard of people only taking 25mg and having life altering side effects. Many many people have had this. My mother infact had a life threatening reaction to this very medication. I am wondering if i should go ahead with this medication and see what happens. If not, how should i handle this situation. Help is greatly appreciated and God Bless!

Ive took Toprol XL and had no reactions what so ever i couldn't even tell i was taking the medication i was on 25 mg...what kind of reaction did your mom have from it? Did she stop it suddenly? because you have to be weaned off that medication

I hope your new medication works for you. You could always voice your concerns with your doc and see what he/she says. I know that i am allergic to penicillian and sulfa drugs but my mother is not. So you cant really go by the reaction your mother had but be sure to watch for the side effects.
