Question Toronto, ON????

Hello again

Sorry this is a bit of a duplicate post but I thought the title looked a bit rubbish and no-one would look at it!!

Does anyone know of a good OB/GYN in toronto? I have recently arrived in Canada from England, UK and am desperate to find a good doc. I do not have OHIP coverage but have similar private insurance.

Any suggestions gratefully received

LOL

I tired, really I did, 20 minutes on google just gave me a freakin' headache. I even tried my community-referrals listings...and nothing!

The only thing I can suggest, is trying to get a referral from another doctor, or maybe try calling your local District Health Unit?

I live in Simcoe Count, so I call the Simcoe-Muskoka District Health Unit, so depending on where you live in Toronto, there should be other health-units.

I'll keep pondering for you!
I don't live in Toronto, but I'm a commuting student, and my program specialises in working with women in the community, so I'll see what I can dig up.

MIGHT. Be able to help you, if you're looking for a doctor and other medical resources. Try to find a 'medical referral' service, and hopefully they'll have a number to call.

Ha! It's amazing what one can do when they pester class-mates!

Doctor Search for Ontario!

This is the search-engine to find Doctors all across Ontario! You can select the specialty, sex of the doctor, location and if they're accepting new patients!

My Results
I tried a search for an "Obstetrician/Gynecologist" specialit, Accepting new patients, who are in Toronto!

I hope this helps!

Smile You're a star!

Hey StarSparrow

Thanks so much for helping out. I am bowled over that you took time out of your day to research an answer to my question. You must be a Grade A student!

I shall definitely check out some of the docs on that list.

It is good to speak to someone else with PCOS in Ontario. We visited Simcoe County last w/e to visit a friend - a place near Glencairn. It is really beautiful round there.

Thanks again

I love Simcoe County, my DBF lives in the country, so I get to see the view quiet often. I also commute using the GO train and bus, so I see the gorgeous country-side, In fall it's breathtaking!

I'm a good student, but I prefer to be a better cyster and friend! ~Hugs~

Take care, Best of Luck to you!

Hey ladies,

I'm in Toronto and have yet to find myself a proper PCOS specialist since diagnosis about 4 years ago. My original GP who sent me for the ultrasound with thoughts that I may have PCOS was incredibly offhandish about the fact she thought I could have PCOS and didn't take time to explain it to me. The internet taught me all I know. I had been asking about why after coming off BC Pills (took 'em for a few years straight) why I couldn't get a period and why all the acne and facial hair - esp. all in one spot on my jawline. I knew it was hormone related. Took her 1.5 years of my whining about it before she would even suggest it "COULD" be PCOS and sent me to the lab for an ultrasound - stating ONLY on the requisition that there was an "absense of menses" - aka NO PERIOD. No mention of her thought that it COULD be PCOS and no mention of what she wanted the lab to look for.

So, I went home, did my research and then went to the lab -t old the lab tech what my doc had said and described my circumstance to her... she said she used to work in a fertility clinic and that she was familiar w/ PCOS - very much so - she knew exactly what to look for. String of pearls like appearance on the ovaries - at least 10 cysts on each... and what she found, was that I DID (or DO) in fact have PCOS. She was not supposed to confirm anything w/ me but after I expressed my distrust of my doctor and how upset I was taht she hadn't explained PCOS to me, or that she hadn't told the lab on the paperwork that she felt it could be PCOS after having mentioned it to ME as a "Reason" why my period perhaps wasn't coming and a "REASON" why the facial hair and the acne. but that was it. So, the lab tech told me it was in fact PCOS and the paperwork she drew up confirmed it.

I switched GP's - just to another one local to my home at the time (Thornhill) and my current GP - while incredibly sympathetic to my cause as she claims she has other female patients with same problem and she hates to see it (she thinks it's all the hormones in the food we are raised on here - she's old fashioned and from Egypt originally but years ago came here) - well, this doc tells me that the BEST PCOS specialist (according to the industry here) is at Sunnybrook hospital. Having said that, she told me that she was reluctant to send me to her as she sent a prior patient to her for the same reasons (I' am not trying to conceive just yet) and the doc only put her on BC Pills - which I'm already on. So, I feel incredibly stuck now. I too need a specialist that can help me combat these symptoms and get me linked up with a proper program to help ME lose the weight etc... I went to a dermatologist for the acne and she did nothing... prescribed a bunch of stuff that just dried out my skin but did nothing for the cysts on my face nor the itching they cause... oh and she recommended Neutrogena moisturizer for the dryness.... but I didn't find any of these products made a darn bit of difference. I believe at this point I either just have to live like this, or find a doc that will pump me with more meds to try and balance me out. So far no one has even tried. I too am welcome to suggestions on finding a doc in ONtario. ANYWHERE - but a serious understanding doctor who will take the time to ensure I get the help I need - that's all I ask.

Thanks to anyone who responds...
