Post Toronto Cysters

Hello,

I just wanted to know if anyone from Ontario has been to the PCOS Clinic at Sunnybrook in Toronto... I want to know what Dr. Laredo is like and if it is a good thing that I am going...

Please.. any info you have on her or any great endo in Northern Ontario would be very helpful....

Thanks a ton
Karr

Dr. Laredo is great she will take all the appropriate tests & make sure you understand the results as well she will give you all the required meds that most doctors are reluctant to give PCOS patients.
The only thing I didn't like that she said was that I wasn't that hairy...as if I would go out in public and not maintain myself. So if you wax...don't bother for your appointment with her.
As for the PCOS clinic...it's a joke!
The website says you have access to all these doctors....and that's a load of....
Dr. Laredo is only available in the clinic 2 times a month (you are better seeing her out of the clinic) The RE that you have access to has a shorter waiting list if you refer yourself than go through the clinic and their so called PCOS gynaecologist picks & chooses her patients so don't hold your breath if you need a gynaecologist.
I had very high hopes for the clinic and though I did like Dr. Laredo I was really let down by the clinic. A 2 day a month occurance to me is not a clinic but a money grab(my opinion)
Hopefully you will like Dr. Laredo she really is nice & informative.
Sudbury is pretty far to travel to the clinic, I hope you have better luck with it than I did.

Default wow great info

Hey Thanks for your info....

I am hoping to go down and get as much info as possible on all that is goingon with me... thanks for the advice on the hair thing,.. I will defiently make sure she knows what I am talking about....

I called the clinic today and they told me that it is her that I will be seeing so thats a start I guess...

It is a long way to travel but I don't have much choice... there is only one endo here and no RE and my gyne is a jerk and is no help at all....

Thank again for the info and I will let you know what happens...

Definately keep me updated.
Dr.Laredo is great but she will only help in the symptoms of PCOS so if you are interested in ttc you may want to contact the Sunnybrook infertility centre now and book your appointment for a consult.
Good Luck!

Hey,

Well I am not ttc just this minute but I want to know what my options are and what the rates are now compared to 2-5 years down the road ie if they decrease greatly and stuff... I want to plan a future if I have to start ttc now and stuff like that...
I am glad you told me she doesn't do that so now I can look into finding someone that does!

Thanks Again!

Hi Laura,
What kind of doctor do you need? An endo? a RE? a Gyno? or even a family physician?
Dr. Laredo is great when it comes to testing and treatments with meds but with ttc she's not so helpful.
As for an RE I can currently recommend that you don't go to TCART but I know lots of other women go to other clinics here that they would highly recommend.
Sorry I can't be of more help

Im not to sure. I am seeing a gyno right noe in england (not very good). I have had all the tests and am not on metformin. She wanted to start me on chlomid but i didn't think it wold be a good idea as i don't trust her and would rather wait until i return to canada. I have a family physician there but she has never helped me with any symptons in the past. I only got told i had pcos once i moved here but i have had problems with cysts since i was 12 (24 now) and she never even mentioned pcos to me. she just gave me repeat perscriptions of t3 for pain. so my hopes of getting help from her when i get back are not high.

Hi Karr,

Just out of curiosity, did your doctor refer you to Dr. Laredo or did you provide that name for her? I'm asking b/c I'm going back to my family GP for a follow-up and I want her to run the tests for PCOS...I don't think she's knowledgeable about PCOS so I wanted to find someone who could diagnose me properly.

Hi Betty,
Sorry to butt in...
You need a referal to see Dr. Laredo.
You can read more about the PCOS clinic here PCOS clinic
It also includes the fax number for your doctor to send the referal to.
Dr.Laredo
Like I have said before the clinic(one/two days a month) is a joke but as for professionalism, proper testing & treatment Dr Laredo is an excellent choice.

Laura,
You may want your family Doctor to refer you as well to Dr. Laredo. She is an endocrinologist but will make sure you are treated properly for PCOS. If you are trying to conceive she will prescribe clomid but anything more than that she will refer you to an RE.

Thanks for the info Beetle girl...any info is good info.
I just want to be properly diagnosed and I don't think my family GP is the right person to do it but I'll speak to her about a referral...thanks for the links!

Hey All,

Just to keep you updated!!! I went ot my appt in Toronto... It was awesome.. I was there for 2:30 hours Dr. Librach ( I was suppose to see Dr.Laredo but she couldn't make it in) anyways...He did all the tests necessary... blood, u/s, physical... The best part of the day was when he brough me and my dbf back into the room to tell us that it will be possible for me the have children.. that made me the happiest.. although I won't be able to do it alone he said I wouldn't have a problem with a little help... SO that just made my day....!!!!

AS for the answer to your question BETTY, I brought her name, the clinic info and all the numbers to my family doc, I asked him to refer me because I didn't like my gyne I had here in sudbury.. he didn't like me because I am overweight!!!!!...

Anyways.. Although I didn't get to see Dr.Laredo I can say that had to be the best experience I have had since I was DX last feb!...

Just wanted to let everyone know@@@
lots o luck

Hi Karr,

Thanks for the update, it's really encouraging to know that you had such a positive experience at the clinic. I'm happy that you and your dbf will be able to have children with a bit of help. Thanks for the tips, I'm seeing my family GP next week so I'll be sure to go in armed with the info.

Once again, thanks for sharing.
