Question Totally Natural COnception????

Is there anyone out there that has had success with conceiving without the use of drugs? I want to do it totally naturally and would like to know what has worked for people.

Also, did I hear correctly on the board??? You should use NPC only after you have ovulated otherwise it could inhibit it?

Help me please...

Hi Joleen & welcome to Soulcysters!!!!!

Yes, only use NPC after O because using it before may supress O.

As far as conceiving naturally, I am now 5 weeks!!

I was taking Metformin, 1500mg and decided that I wanted to get my periods every month and get an ovulation every month to, like normal women do!

So I researched 2 drugs. One was Vitex and the other was Dong Quai. I used NPC up until AF came then stopped and waited for O. This whole time (2 days before AF actually) I was taking the 2 herbs! I ended up O'ing about CD18 naturally for my very first time ever!!! 10 days later I found out I was pregnant!!

It can happen, good luck and keep the faith!!!!

Default Confused

Thank you so much for your reply. First let me say CONGRATULATIONS!

I don't know what to do and want all the information I can get.

First of all, how did you get your period to start (I am assuming that is what AF means)?

My periods have always been irregular but I am now 17 weeks since I had my period. I have been using NPC (2 x a day for 2 weeks) and have notice things are different with my body. My stomach doesn't protrude as much (I haven't lost any weight - much to my dismay) and this may seem gross but pee smells different. Also, I feel like I am getting my period (I always do but don't always get it).

Should I stop my NPC until I get my period? Should I take Vitex to get my period and then start the NPC?

I also want to loose 70 lbs before I get pregnant and am aiming for the weight to be gone by the summer/fall.

When you went off your metformin did you have any weird reactions - did your body seem to still need it? I am wondering if I went on the glucophage (aka metformin) until I lost the weight and went off it when I am ready to get pregnant if that would work.

Sorry to bombard you with all these questions.

Thanks for listening - any help would be appreciated.

Tori - it's so refreshing to hear a success story, especially a natural one.
One question - what's NPC. I very interested in this Natural Conseption idea, do you recommend any articles/sites?
Thanks
Jen

Dear Dumbluck,

NPC is natural progesterone cream.

Can you tell me what AF stands for?

As you can see I am new to this and the abbreiviations throw me sometimes.

Hope all goes well with the NPC.

Joleen - AF stands for Aunt Flo (ie. menstruation). You should only use the NPC for 14 days, then stop and wait for AF to come. AF comes once the progesterone drops, so once you stop it should hopefully start. Hope that helps. I'm new to this too.

Thanks Lottodaisies77,

So I used NPC for 14 days and stopped - what if it doesn't come in 14 days? Start NPC again?

Thanks for your help.

Joleen- A lot what I have read is to try it 14 days on, 14 days off until AF comes. You might try using a little more and see if that helps. Depending on how much you weigh, it might take a little more to jump start the system. Good luck.

Yes, I just posted about it in another NPC thread. This is according to Dr. Lee's book. It will prevent ovulation just like bcps would. In fact, NPC can be used as a bcp, but it has not been studied that way--

(thank you big pharmaceutical companies that only want to make artifical products that are able to be patented.)

Oh and by the way, perhaps you need to increase your Met dosage to the maximum 2550mg/day in order to ovulate?

I've also read many people say that the brand name Glucophage (regular not XR) taken in divided doses is more effective.

Please stay on Met once you get your positive HPT too:

--and I apologize that this post is not alternative medicine, although given the fact that so few doctors know about this Met research it practically IS alternative!

Joleen, by saying totally natural conception, I took it to mean that conception occured without anything. I've had 3 children with no meds, herbs, temping or anything. I know 5 women in real life who did the same. I've met others here who've had it happen as well. I know we are all different, but I would tell anyone who was ttc to try it on their own for a while, just to see if it could happen. I had very few periods, no cramping, only needed to wear a panty liner for a couple of days, but apparently I was still ovulating! There's hope for everyone if they give it a chance. If it doesn't work, then look for something to help out. Sometimes Mother nature only needs to be given a chance. I just don't like it when people assume PCOS = infertility without giving their bodies a chance to work on it's own.

No offense to anyone else's experience, because I certainly think this can be true, but since I've been TTC for about 2 years and now at the age of 35, I needed tests to see if I was ovulating or not! Just saying that other women are able to conceive naturally without worrying about it really doesn't help me. Through tests at the dr.;s office (although now I know how to test my own ovulation) I found out wasn't ovulating and that spurred me on to take care of my overall health.

I think the guidelines that my endo gave me are that "normal" TTC couples conceive within 6 months. If you are in your 30's and you haven't in that time period, it's time to seek help or at least find out why you could be having a problem. It depends on your personal goals in life and your own timeline. I don't think people assume they are infertile until they try for a while and it doesn't happen! I've seen many cysters sig's state they have been TTC for years and years!

Personally if I conceive, I will consider it "natural", since I'm only using NPC right now to boost my luteal phase

Joleen~

First my AF (period) started by using the NPC. You are supposed to use it for 14 days then stop for like 7 then for 14 again and so on. Well I was on Cd (cycle day) 85 when I started it! What was supposed to be CD87 turned into CD1 for me and AF came for a visit!! I stopped the Progesterone and just kept taking the 600mg pill of Vitex and the 600mg pill of Dong Quai. Apparently it worked.

suzieq91~

As I said above the dosage was 600mg of each (which is one pill). I bought mine at GNC. I was on it from CD84, CD85, CD86, CD1 (AF came here remember) all through about CD21. I ovulated on CD18 and wasn't sure if I should stop taking it or finish, etc. I read that it is harmful to the fetus to take during pregnancy so I stopped 3 days after ovulation.

As far as conceiving naturally without herbs, drugs, etc it can happen but most of the time it doesn't only because women with PCOS use Metformin (which helps pregnancy and/or ovulation sometimes) to help cure their PCOS symptoms. So for a woman to conceive TOTALLY natural is possible, but most women prefer to take drugs to help their PCOS symptoms and then get pregnant.

Default Thanks everyone!

Thank you all for your comments.

When I said naturally, I did mean the inclusion of NPC, and herbs, I just meant without clomid and met etc. However, all information given is always appreciated.

Just so you know, I have started met to help me get my symptoms under control. Once they are and I have lost the weight I am hopeful that I can go "naturally" from there on in.

I guess it is my own science experiment - I'll let you know how it goes.

Thanks again.
