I must agree with Siamlovex2. Either your dr. did not really care on making sure you understood what you have or maybe you were taking more of a hands off approach?
In no way do I mean this as an insult but my mother has a friend who had it for over a year and when she started TTC she called her dr. office 2 make an appt. & the nurse told her she had PCOS which would make that difficult. she was shocked that she doesn't even remember the dr telling her that, but DX her in her file!
I'm glad u did your research (even tho it was for school) LOL!!!! But since it's not cancer or heart disease...you really have to go into the dr's office prepared w/ information & questions. If they can't answer them or have obvious information gaps...you may want to find another specialist so you could get better care.
I wish you all the best! And remember to walk in w/ ur notes & let them know you mean business. Most treatment options I have seen are the same: bcp, hormones to start period, surgery, insulin-resistant drugs, etc.. Keep researching these to see what your dr. is willing to try. Weight loss will MOST DEFINITELY be the best thing you can do for it. (since it was explained to me that fat cells hold testosterone so the more fat you have, the more you are keeping the PCOS cycle going....)
see ya around Cys!
