Question Treatment for Acanthosis Nigricans

Hello Ladies! My name is Amanda, Im a new member of this great website.

Recently I brought DR Thatchers book in the hopes that I would learn more. I did gain a great deal of information about PCOS, but the book was lacking when it came to the topic of Acanthosis Nigricans.

I wondering about treatments? Is weight loss the only treatment, is it successful? Are their any meds currently available? Any over the counter solutions like lotions? Any success with herbal treatments?

Any information from personal experience's would be very much appreciated! Im desperate.

Thank you,
Amanda

Hi,

Of all the research I've done, it did say that weight loss could help minimize the appearance of acanthosis nigricans (AN), but it probably wouldn't take it away completely.

I've read that AN can also be related to type II diabetes and insulin resistance. Getting those two problems taken care of may help.

Questions and info on on acanthosis nigricans has been posted before. You'll find the posts if you run a search.

Here's some info I got for you.

Quote:
I've used Clearasil with 2% salycic acid on the areas under my arms that have it, with good results but poor results on other areas of my body.

There was a thread not too long ago by JulieL who obtained a prescription from her dermatologist that has worked really well for her.

Her prescription:

3% salycic acid and equal parts of:
Vitamin A acid cream(.25%)
desonide cream
