Default Treatment for heavy bleeding and clots.

I was wondering if anyone with heavy bleeding and large clots has been given treatment with a low dose pill or an iud and what the results were.I have PCOS since i was in my 20's,i had irregular periods with normal bleeding when they came. I have three children two concieved with fertility treatments and one on our own,she was actually a surprise baby. Now in my 40's i am experiecing very heavy periods, and clots. I don't get my period every month but when i do it is pretty bad.I need to treat this because it interferes with everyday life.I don't know how much is perimenopause,or something else. When i visited the gyno, she replied with loose weight first and these two(pill, and IUD) are your other options.Any help would be appreciated.

If you are done having children, why don't you consider a uterine ablation? If they won't just let you have a hyst at least.

When i mentioned a hysterectomy, she said basically that would be a last resort treatment.I would consider the ablation,i think it makes sense, i am not having any more children and i don't want any more birhtcontrol methods.I think i am going to suggest that.

My stepmom had one and she was so happy with it. She only had minimal cramping afterward and slight pain. I guess you don't really want to have the hysterectomy unless you need one but if you're having that many problems chances are that your uterus is just a big ol' mess anyway. I say ablation and be done with it!!!
