I am new here. I just got my PCOS diagnosis today and am a bit overwhelmed.
The Nurse Practitioner I go to (she was the first one I could get to run any tests for me... anywhere else I went I was just seen as another nutty patient) advised more protein and no more "white" foods, and a bit more exercise. She also prescribed Metformin Hcl.
I also spoke to my Acupuncturist who is also a Doctor of Oriental Medicine (he is the one who helped me start checking some things out by having me get a saliva test to check my hormones) and he said that we can rebalance my hormones naturally instead of taking the Metformin.
I am confused about what to do. Does anyone have any input? I think I would rather try to see if lifestyle changes and natural remedies make a difference before I take any medications.
Any help is appreciated... I just want to feel better.
Hi Claire,
Welcome to SC. I know it's overwhelming when you're first diagnosed, but you'll find lots of support here.
I have no experience w/ the natural remedies. I took met for 3 years and it helped me a lot. My cycles became more regular, I lost weight, and I got pregnant w/ my daughter after ttc for 2 years.
Best wishes to you-- do some reading on here and I'm sure you'll feel better equipped to make a decision regarding your treatment. We're here if you need to talk.
Hugs
Jenny

Welcome! Everything is definitely overwhelming. You've come to the right place for information and support. I don't have any experience with the natural remedies either. If you are apprehensive about taking medication, try the accupuncturist. Then if it doesn't work you can always do the Met. Good luck!

Welcome! I always try the natural route first, I am not currently taking anything except prometrium for low progesterone. I excercise, try to eat good (cut out as much sugar and processed foods as possible) and I have noticed a big difference in my symptoms. It's worth a shot!

I'm kind of where you are at so I don't have much wisdom, but checking around this board has given me lots of good info! Good luck!

I called my Nurse Practiotioner today and asked her if it is OK if I forego taking the Metformin for now and really focus on diet and exercise and try some supplements with the help of my acupuncturist.
I will see what he has to say tomorrow and let y'all know!
He anyone,
I started taking glucophage in June, July I stopped then started again in August. I haven't seen my monthlies for two months. I want it to be pregnancy, but I'm afraid it might not be. Has anyone ever missed while on Glucophage?
Eighty 2,
I believe I did miss maybe once while I was on met. (Can't remember for sure!) Maybe it could be late because there was a time in the middle there when you weren't on the met?
But I hope it's that you're pregnant!
Best wishes!
Jenny

Welcome here! Due to my lifestyle changes (diet and exercise), I was able to control my symptoms. I decided to take Met, anyway, and I'm glad I did because it has shortened my cycles.
