Question Tri-cyclen

Hi,

I'm a former Diane 35 user. I haven't taken any BC pills for my PCOD since January 2003 (I stopped as soon as the big controversy re. Diane 35 was reported)
My periods were pretty normal for most of the year but are becoming heavy again and recently have been preceded by cysts on my left ovary. Also, my acne and male type hair growth are coming back with a vengance. My doctor just perscribed TRI-Cyclen. I am just wondering if anyone can share their thoughts/comments on Tri-Cyclen and its side effects.
Also, one question - Is the thinning of the hair on our heads from the PCOD itself or is it a side effect of the BC pills??

Thanks a bunch.
-Karen

Many people have had luck with tri cyclen. Very low androgen level. I had better luck on orth cyclen which is monophasic. It did help with hair and acne. The tri cyclen was a bit too high in estrogen for me the first week so the ortho cyclen worked better. Great for my cycle and never spotted.

It is my understanding we get hairloss from androgens. These are usually elevated in women with pcos. Most bc pills help this by increasing shbg and therefore binding to the androgens, or something like that. Estrogen also plays a role in helping hairloss. Some bc pills have a higher androgen level and have caused more problems in myself. Alesse and loestrin are examples of pills with higher androgen levels.
