| Wishin' & Hopin' Join Date: May 2008 Location: Southern Texas ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | OMG you're not kidding! Now I don't even know if I'm going to be able to go next week! My original appt. was last month. I ended up with AF so I had to cancel. They rescheduled me for 2 weeks later. Well, the day off the clinic called to tell me that they had to reschedule me again because my doc had a board meeting or something. They rescheduled me for 2 weeks later. I looked at the calendar and called them back to tell them that was the day after I was supposed to get AF again (the past few AF's have been 24 days like clockwork)...so they pushed it back to next week. Well AF is late and if she gets much later I may have her again by the time this appt. rolls around! This is getting old! |

I've never had a PCP try to really help me on OBGYN stuff. Same thing with pretty much everything else. Unless I was sick my PCP just referred me to someone else after 1-2 visits. Oh and don't be surprised if you don't like your doctor. In my experience Tricare PCPs are usually crap. I've never had a doctor I really liked. I do however, LOVE my OBGYN. Many specialists take Tricare, but as for regular doctors it seems like we get the bottom of the barrel. Same thing with Medicare and Medicaid I suppose.

| Wishin' & Hopin' Join Date: May 2008 Location: Southern Texas ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Well as of right now my appt. is set for Wednesday still. I don't know if I'll actually be able to go. AF was due last Tuesday but she didn't show up til Saturday night. I don't know if she'll be gone by the time my appt. rolls around. If I have to reschedule this will be my 4th time! I thought I'd have a shot at her referring me to an ob/gyn because of the PCOS but considering I never even made it past the desk clerk when I called, I don't know how my PCM feels about it yet! Is it wrong of me to not really want a PCM managing my PCOS? I mean, am I being a little paranoid or overreacting? (I do have a tendancy to do that!!) I guess I'd just rather have someone who specializes in those specific organs and the conditions they have. |

And if you dont like any of the drs you can talk to the base command and tell them you are not happy with the treatment you are getting and ask if you can get a civilian dr. Also maybe instead of asking your PCM you could ask for a referal to an OB. generally it is pretty easy to get OB referals and then an outside OB can help you with your diagnosis and referals for infertility. But Tri care covers everything up to IVF and IVF you have a waiting list and have to pay 5000 out of pocket(which is actually really good) Also you can get clomid for free if you get it on base. Anyways, I said that to say, if you dont have a infertility treamtment center around you Tricare has to send you out in the community. Also I just found out that if there is a specialist that tri care doesnt cover, if its the only one in the community they have to pay for it (I jsut found that out because there is only one PCOS specialist where I am and tricare doesnt normally cover it but will for a specialist) If you have any questions about my TTC journey with tricare please message me and i will do what I can to help you out, thiswas all very scary to me at first but now i am doingit for a second time I kinda know my way around. I am sure there is still some stuff that I dont know about but I know the road I had to take.

All I have ever had to do is ask for a OB referal and I got it quickly rom my PCMs. My OBs were the ones that always held me up on trying to get pg. by the time everything was said and done it took about 6 months of testing to get refered to IF treamtments. I hope you are able to get what you need to done.

| Registered User Join Date: May 2008 Location: in a rural/urban/suburban area -- it's different ![]() | Back when my husband was military we had TriCare Prime and I called them up and had my PCM changed to someone we got referrals for instead of the a** I was originally assigned to. The customer services people are pretty helpful. That was when we were in NY and when we were in IL, the clinic there didn't do ob/gyn stuff so luckily I had to go out to someone in the community and not military for the care I wanted. Unfortunately, still what I thought to be sub-par care, but that is the military for ya. Even the doctor I liked refused to put me on Met -- I'd done the research myself and thought it was the best route -- and continued the bcp which I didn't want to be on but if that was the ONLY thing she was offering I was in a tight spot to do anything else. I hope you have better luck finding the care you want within the military medical system, and hopefully the cust. service people with TriCare can help you out. Good Luck!

| Wishin' & Hopin' Join Date: May 2008 Location: Southern Texas ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | It was ok. I actually thought the doctor was really nice (she's actually a nurse practicioner--sp??). I was worried cause a lady at Curves didn't have very nice things to say about her so I was nervous. Other than that there's not a whole lot to say. She said she'd gladly send me out to an OB/GYN once DH and I had been trying for a year & were unable to get pregnant. She said that some people with PCOS can still get pregnant on their own. I'm not going to press the issue for right now since DH and I aren't actively TTC (we're just not avoiding either). I've been off BCP's since...Nov. or Dec. and DH came home from deployment in Jan and we haven't used anything since then (and I haven't gotten pregnant either) so I figure even though we're not actively trying, I'll still include that as part of my 12 month waiting period if necessary. DH is fine with not using any birth control but he's not ready to step it up a notch yet to acheive pregnancy. So I figure I'll chill out until Jan., see what happens and if nothing does happen then I'll get the ball rolling with the other tests or fertility treatments if I need them. |

| God Answers Prayers Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: Cali ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | If I were you I would still ask if I could talk to someone about getting the PCOS under control. Unless ofcourse the metfomin you are taking is working...but even then you need to have her on board to prescribe more to you if you need it. I hope she is willing to work with you over it all. Good luck and keep us informed. I will be praying for you guys. ETA: You may ought to start tracking your cycles as well, and possibly your bbt (not to "actively" start trying but so that when you want to pursue it more you can show that you have been watching your cycles and possibly make them think you were "actively" trying)-does all that make sense? It will also help you out when you do decide to start trying you will know whether you are ovulating or not or at least have some idea of whther you are.
