Default TriCare?? Going to doc next week & getting nervous...

I'm not 100% sure this post belongs in this forum but I wasn't sure where else to post it!

I was dx back in 2001 & have been on meds since. I got married last August and since DH is military we have TriCare. Has anyone dealt with PCOS and/or TTC with TriCare? We're on TriCare Prime (which is their version of an HMO). Anything and everything is done through my primary doctor until she exhausts herself and give me a referral to see a specialist.

DH and I want to start TTC in the next year. I haven't had ANY tests done on me in a LOOOOONG time. I probably shouldn't be worried or nervous until I have something to worry about but I heard my doc is a b***h from a lady at my gym who also sees her. I haven't even seen her myself yet so I feel bad for having a notion about her already.

I guess I'm just nervous she's not going to listen to me or do what'd I'd like her to do (I know we don't always get what we want!). I want to know where I stand with my levels. AND I was looking back at all the labs I DO have from back in 2001/2002 and I'm not sure I had labs done on the correct day (isn't it supposed to be on day 3 of your cycle?).

Well now I'm just rambling. Sorry! Anyone deal with TriCare at all?

Are you sure you'll need fertility treatments? Maybe you're worried about nothing...

Oh! Sorry I should be more clear! I started rambling and everything was running together.
I don't know if I need fertility treatments. I won't know unless we start to TTC instead of TTWhatever. I guess what I'm worried about right now is that I want some tests rerun so see where I stand. I've been off BCP for about 6 mos now & I'm not sure how accurate the firsts tests were if they were done on the wrong day (I really don't know if that's a big deal or not). I'm hoping she'll do some bloodwork. I'm fairly certain I'm not ovulating.
Right now I'm just trying to get ready for TTC if that makes sense. I'm working on losing weight & getting healthier and I guess I just want to know what I'm dealing with where my PCOS is concerned too.
I probably am worrying about nothing! That's classic for me though! I'm a worrier...

Before you go in, write down all of things that 'aren't right' with you healthwise. Don't say 'pcos', put down your symptoms...hirsutism, irregular AF, difficulty losing weight, whatever. Tell the doctor that another doctor suggested pcos, but it was never clear.

Also take in a calendar with your menstrual history.

Awesome suggestions! I've been on Met though which will probably raise some flags with her about the "never clear" part.

Would a doctor put me on Met if a diagnosis was unclear? (I'm seriously asking not being snarky!) I do have a lot of questions about these things now. I had bloodwork done back in the day which I truly don't think was on day 3 (if that's a big deal??), I've been labled IR which I probably am but I never did a glucose test where I drank the liquid & they monitored me. They just drew blood and my glucose was 97 but I wasn't fasting (the reference range on my labs were 74-110 so it is on the higher side) and 6mos later after I was on Met is was drawn again and it was 74 and again I don't believe I was fasting.

There is no 'clear' diagnosis for PCOS, it's a diagnosis of 'exclusion', and metformin is not an fda approved treatment for pcos - that's off-label usage.

At the time of your diagnosis, your doctor should have clearly explained the basis for the Dx, and why specific meds were Rx'd

Hey! I'm TTC with PCOS & also on Tricare Prime! We're at Ft Rucker where there's only a clinic so I have to get referrals for everything. So far I've had no probs getting refferals.

I was misdiagnosed as not having PCOS about 4 yrs ago because my labs were done at the wrong time in my cycle. The nurse practioner on post did them at the right times in my cycle & her & the endocrinologist she sent me to said I def. have PCOS. We've been TTC since July & my lack of AF was the primary reason I went to her. I took all my prior records from the mis-diagnoses with me to my appt. so that helped her suspicisions. My PCM actually told me I needed to see the NP that she didn't handle "these issues".
Thank goodness she did. I'm lucky to have an awesome NP.

I thought I'd have to wait the full year of TTC but she said since I have PCOS they want to get me pregnant ASAP. I'm seeing the endo & an OB/GYN now who has increased my met & given me provera & clomid.

Good luck...hope everything is as easy for you as it's been for me.

Honestly they didn't really. I started working for an Endocrinologist my senior year in high school. While I was still working there a year later when I went in for a gyn visit with my usual doctor. She became suspicious and ordered blood work and an ultrasound for me.

Since I worked for an Endo I pulled some strings and got my labs and ultrasound report early (instead of having them get sent to my gyn, then reviewed by her, then get a referral to an Endo, then having my labs reviewed by them...). Once my lab and U/S reports was faxed over I gave it to one of the 5 Endo's I worked for. I didn't like her to begin with but she was the only one in the office that day--she looked at it and said I was fine. I was like "uh...ok." it seemed weird to me since thing were out of the reference ranges and the U/S mentioned multiple follicles with the largest one being 1cm. But I told myself she's the expert--chill out.

A few days later my gyn calls me and tells me she was right, it looks like PCOS and to get in with an Endo. So I started seeing another Endo I worked for, one I liked & trusted more. He ran some more blood work and put me on Met. I think because I worked for him he didn't necessarily explain things to me like he would a normal patient. I was 19 and naive and did what he told me.

I have since gotten older, gotten married, am wondering how this will effect my chances of having kids, I've found this site which has a plethora of info! I'm much more invested in my health now than I've ever been.

If it were me, I'd just start over from scratch...

See the new doctor, take the menstrual chart, tell your symptoms, and take it from there...

Wow! It's a relief to hear things have been easy for you! Hopefully I'll have the same luck! I've been off BCP's for 6mos now & we haven't been TTC but we're not avoiding either. Someone told me since we weren't preventing (and because of the PCOS) they may count that toward my 12mos of trying. I just hope I'm overreacting about my PCM/TriCare and it won't be that big of a deal. I guess we could switch to Standard if necessary so I can have a little more freedom but I won't worry about that until I've done what I can with Prime.

One thing that works in my favor--we'll only be in Texas for a year and then we move to San Diego so I'll have another PCM anyway!

I went off BCPs in July with the intent of trying when DH came home from training in Sept. Have you had regular AF since going off BCPs? If you have to just tell them you've been trying LOL
