Default trileptal

has anyone tried this? my psychiatrist put me on it for mood stabilization. so far i am on 300 mg daily, taken in two doses. over the next 3 weeks, i will titrate up to 600 mg daily in divided doses.

so far i find it is helping me focus and calm down a bit better. i don't think i have any s/e except for possibly a little nausea (then again, i've been having nausea issues, so it might not even be the trileptal).

just wondering if anyone has any experience w/this med. thanks.

Hi isenephthys...

I have never heard of trileptal - is it still working for you? Glad to hear you aren't experiencing any side effects but I am just wondering - do you know what are the possible side effects?

check out this website, it's good for psych drug info:

http://www.crazymeds.us/trileptal.html

sounds like Trileptal may not be good for insulin levels. But worth checking out and asking a doctor about....

i love the crazymeds site! it's the first one i check. i also like rxlist.com for the more clinical information without having to pull out a magnifier ton read the company's pi sheet!

my psychiatrist wanted to try the trileptal since i've been in a mixed state and tend to rapid cycle. we were going to try lamictal, topamax or lithium but since i plan on having gastric bypass in a few months she wants something that i will be relatively stable on while i am losing weight rapidly. the only big thing to worry about on trileptal is low sodium levels. i have noticed some abdominal swelling, which i am definitely going to bring up at my next visit.

for the most part though, i think i am adjusting ok. i just started week #3. i am having some nausea and dizziness as i adjust my dose upward but they tend to decrease with time. i'm also a bit mentally fuzzy, which i hope goes away soon! i will keep ya'll posted on how it ultimately works out.

just a final trileptal update- i discontinued it shortly after titrating to 300 mg twice daily. i was constantly dizzy and nauseous. it felt like i was drunk. i was also retaining tons of water in my hands and stomach but urinating like crazy and felt totally dehydrated. i talked to my pdoc and we decided it was most likely messing with my sodium levels so we stopped it. i'm trying lithium now.
