Default Trouble Sleeping?

Has anyone developed insomnia because of their PCOS. I can't seem to ever sleep, its amazing cause my body is so tired, and I'm running around all the time, but I still can't sleep. Anyone have any solutions? I think it may be due to anxiety but I'm not sure...

Hi Melissa,

I've had terrible insomnia for a long time and I think a lot of it is caused by anxiety that is exasperated by PCOS. This is going to sound trite, but the two things I did that really helped me to sleep better lately is following a low-carb, low-glycemic diet and regular exercise. When your digestion and energy is improved, it's amazing how much that impacts your sleep patterns positively.

When that doesn't work, I take one of two natural remedies: Hyland's Calms Forte or 5-HTP. I also use "Rescue Remedy" for anxiety and I think they have a Rescue Remedy formulation now for sleep, too. Some people like valerian or melatonin, too. You can find any of these products in your local health food store.

And of course, there's always grandma's old-fashioned remedy: warm milk with honey. Hey, it still works!
