Does Met make you lose weight? And if so, Why? I am not understanding that much. My Doctor wants me to go on Yasmin and Met combo since we wont be TTC for awhile now since we lost Maya-Ruth.
After the pregnancy weight goes off, I wont have a lot to loose and I dont want to go on a Med if will make me lose more.
TIA

It can help you lose weight, but not all women lose on Met. I think because it is helping reduce your insulin level your sugar doesn't get stored as fat. It is allowed to "burn" and as energy. I may be wrong and if I am someone will correct me!
I am by no means an expert, but my dr explained it to me (I am overweight) that weight comes off easier once your body is processing sugars/glucose correctly. I would imagin that if you're already thin that this wouldn't cause you to lose too much weight. Hopefully you'll get more responses from people with more experience or in your same situation. Good luck, hope this helps.

I have been reading the weight lost comes with a insulin levels, but I'm convinced that it's the loss of appetite and the frequent relations with the toilet...
I'm a thin cyster, and I haven't lost a pound....I'm also not IR, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Hi -- I agree with you all. When you have PCOS you may have inflated insulin levels. This causes your body to store the glucose from your food -- usually around the belly and midsection. When you lower the insulin, it forces the body to use its own fat stores and convert to glucose. That's why many undiagnosed diabetics lose weight because their insulin level has dropped...and also why many folks who take insulin (injections) can gain weight if it gets too high. My DH is a Type II who takes both met and insulin...the met to make the cells absorb the insulin and insulin to replace that which his body doesn't make. This way, he doesn't have to take too much insulin. The met side affects (appetite loss, bathroom) I think just help it along. It probably is different for each person.

I was reading this thread as I had very similar questions/issues. I found a heck of a lot of information in the thread below and it answered my question. You might find some additional info here....
It can, but it's not a guarantee. It doesn't LOSE the weight for you, but it does regulate your hormones which put you on an even playing field with normal women to lose weight with diet and exercise. My weight barely budged until i got serious about helping the drug help me...regular commitment to exercise, eating to control my insulin.
Hormones are a huge part of why/where we gain weight, so the healthier your hormones are, the easier it will be to regulate your weight.
Good luck!
