I was diagnosed with PCOS when I was 17 and put on the pill after having only 1 or 2 periods. I am now 24 and in Feb this year I went off the pill under the guidance of a naturopath. I have not had a period since.
I am currently taking "Polyfem" and Homeopathics.
Still nothing.
I guess I'm getting really disheartened about it all.. but I really don't want any more chemicals in my body, ESPECIALLY the pill. My husband and I want to start trying to have a family mid next year, but at the moment I feel like that is going to be impossible as you need a period to be fertile!
People say all the time with PCOS that they go for months without a period, but it's almost a year! I'm freaking out!!!
hi,I hope I can be of some encouragemtn. I have never gone as long as 3 months without a period. But I do know how frustrating it is waiting around for it to come. I myself felt like I wasnt really a woman because my body would not do what it was supposed to do naturally. then I found this forum and read the message boards and I started and taking herbal supplements. I was dx in june and have had 3 periods since because of the herbals. Before i was dx and knew nothing about herbals i was only getting my period every 3 months. Natural is best in my opionion and I think you are great for not wanting to put chemicals in your body. this is going to sound cliche, but hang in, give your body the time it needs to heal with the supplements you are on and i really believe you will start to see the results you are looking for.

Hmmm...see thats my problem, most people say they have gone between 3 and 6 months without a period. I have gone for 10 and there seems to be no sign of anything happening!!! I guess I'm worried that its been too long!
I'm trying to do the 'cervical fluid' thing, but to be honest I don't really understand it!! So I think I might buy a themometre and do my temps, as I guess I just want to know if I'm at least ovulating!
Hello. I'm new to this site, but wanted to let you know that I have gone several months w/out as well. I started taking Vitex about a year ago. I was pregnant within a month. Unfortunately I quit taking the Vitex (not knowing the dangers of it w/ preganancy) and miscarried. It does work though. After my miscairrage- I went to an endocrinologist. She tested my insulin level (which was 13 and normal is <10). So, I took her advice and started taking Metformin. I didn't know if I could do the Met w/ Vitex - so I quit taking the Vitex. So... 6 months later - My insulin is at 24! I was having low blood sugar episodes and just didn't feel right. So, I quit the Metformin - and have been taking Vitex, Chromium, and B vitamins for about a week and a half. I feel better. I am going to test my blood the first of November - and if my insulin comes down at all after the steady 6 month rise - than I know that I'm doing the right thing. Ive also read that birth control can work against PCOS. So, I don't like to be on the pill. Diet & excercise are also very important. Try to eat a lot of small snacks through out the day. I follow this guidline with my carbs....
45 carb breakfast, 15 carb snack, 45 carb lunch, 15 carb snack, 45 carb dinner, 30 carb snack to keep blood sugar up through the night. My diabetic counselor said that diet is good for everyone to follow for good nutrition.
Well, I don't know if this helps or not - but hope you can take something from it.
i usually go for 2-3 months without having a period.. 10 months is a long time try a low carb like callalilly suggested sometimes that might help good luck!
Thanks for you replies...what is Vitex? Chemical drug??
What are the outcomes of a low carb diet?? I know women with PCOS benefit from loosing weight...and I'm definatley not saying I don't need to (I hate my small pudgy stomach) but I weigh between 58-60kg I fluctuate!!(127 pounds I think!?) which is within my health weight range (55kg to 69kg). Are there other benefits besides weight loss? I am NOT insulin resistant.
I am on a no sugar diet with my naturopath and because I'm also a vegetarian I need carbs...because well otherwise all I would eat is vegetables and fruit...which granted would help me loose weight!! But I love food and hate being hungry!!!
My Naturopath does not seemed phased that its been 10 months!! Becasue I was put on the pill when I was 17 after only 2 periods my body never had a chance to ever get in the rhythm of things and then 7years of the pill suppressed everything going on. But I am worried!!! I don;t really feel that she is very 'involved' with me as a client! I think it might be time to move on!
Callalilly - I'm so sorry to hear of your miscarriage. I pray for healing for yourself and your partner. Thank you so much for sharing your story.
Hello again. Vitex is an herb. I'm not an expert at all - but from what I gather it helps regulate the hormones in the body that are out of balance. So, for us girls with PCOS - it regulates hormones that induce ovulation - which leads to AF. PS- Thanks for the blessings and good luck to you!
