Depression, anxiety, poor response to 13 anti-depressants, fatigue, dry skin, weight gain, etc etc......PCOS, high testosterone and androgen.
My TSH is 1.85, but I'm really wondering if I might not be subclinically hypothyroid. I'm considering asking my doctor to try Cytomel, since they have used it for depression and that might as well be as good an option as any.....
My friend's mom had panic attacks for 16 years, they always said her thyroid was normal, until she searched and finally found a doc that would do the subclinical testing....sure enough.
The lab here won't do subclinical tests unless an endo orders it. I've been referred to an endo...the waiting list it a year.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

-High testosterone, cortisol, aldosterone, androstenedione, free androgen index, no apparent insulin resistance however
-off all hormone meds since having pulmonary embolism in August 2009
-Main symptoms: weight gain (especially annoying in mid-section/abdomen), high androgens, very low progesterone, no periods unless on OC
-fortunate to have very good bp, blood sugar, cholesterol, etc., no hirsutism.
Hi Brooke,
Got put on Synthroid today. was hoping for Cytomel, but my doc has more experience with Syn...
Subclinical testing...well someone else would probably have a better idea of how to define that, but there is a TRH test that can show what the TSH can't...haven't gotten far in my attempts to get that done, as I said before...lol.
Start Spiro tomorrow too.....yeesh!

I'm glad you are taking your meds. sooner than you thought. My TSH is 3.10 but my endo. won't put me on meds.
1. Can you tell me if you feel any better after starting Synthyroid?
I'm also confused about all the different meds. live in the UK and they don't prescribe Armour here... (which i've heard is good coz it also contains T3)
2. Can you explain anything about the fact that once you start Thyroid meds. you have to take them for life? that sounds scary...
Hi Diana,
My GP prescribed the Synthroid. I haven't noticed anything yet, however I also don't know for sure that I am hypo. I have heard that T3 is a lot better for depression, etc., that's what I wanted to try.
Could you get a second opinion? I know that your TSH is in the 'normal' range, but it is at the high end. Can you get your free T3 and T4 checked? Here, only an endo can order those tests. I got them done yesterday.
As for being on them for life, well, I'm not sure. Some thyroid problems are transient, like thyroiditis, others are chronic, and it's something I suppose needs to be checked up on regularily, to see how it's going....I'd rather not think of being on meds the rest of my life, but if they would make my life better then I would.
I'll keep you updated!
