Default Tsh 3.5

Hi

Am planning to get pregnant and the doc's put me on Clomid. My last year's TSH is 3.5(have not done any new tests) which she says is 'normal'. But I read on the posts that any TSh above 2 or as someone said 3 is 'not normal'. I'd like to know whether this will affect my baby when i concieve. i spoke to the doc about lowering it but she says it Ok, anything below 5.5 is ok..she says.... Should I insist on lowering TSH or shd I go along with her....Pl advise!!

Hi,
How do you feel physically? Are you gaining weight for no reason? Is your hair falling out (mine didn't when I was dx'ed hypothyroid until about 3-4 years later). Those are factors.Don't just go by what you think is normal
I have all of my labs from years ago and I notice that when mine was at 3.something I felt really good.
Some people may feel great at 3 or 4 and then some people may feel really bad at that level. My endo told me that everyone has a predestined tsh level that they will fell good at.She said her's was 2.I figure mine is 2-3.
My last tsh was .05 YIKESS!!! It is being overly supressed and we are holdong back on the cytomel. I will wait and see how it turns out.

I wish you the best!

Hi Jenn.....Thanks for writing in......Well!! i feel ok somedays and not so ok the others.....I mean somedays I'm tired tired tired....and others r full of energy.....for some months I lose hair like anyhting but hardly anything comes of in the others(maybe due to changing weather also).....so maybe i shd assume it's all in the mind for a while and see.....possibly thinking that something's wrong with me all based on numbers will make me 'really' feel bad....so maybe i shd relax and let my body decide and forget the numbers..
thanks a bunch!!

Depending on the lab used a normal TSH is usually between 0.3 and 5.0. Some people aren't even symptomatic when they are way out of those ranges. When you do become pregnant they will check your level again and baby will be checked at birth. Good luck! Jen

If I were you, I'd insist on treating it. I've heard that it's not optimal for conception and can increase chances of m/c if it's over 3. I just found out that mine is back to over 3 and I have to increase meds again. Best of luck.

Question

Hi

I have just joined this group and I am SO glad to have found this site. I live in Australia and have this lovely "syndrome" My hubbie and I have been TTC for 3 years, and I have been seeing a Naturopath for 2 years. I have high free androgens, high TSH (3.5) something with my LH (I think its high?) Also my SHBG is in a bad state.

I have been on Metformin for 6 weeks, which has improved my cycle. (My naturopath has been quite successful in returning my cycles, and making sure that they are ovulatory cycles) at my last checkup with her we went over recent blood tests which contained the high TSH result. She is treating me with something called Thyrotone.

After my long winded post, my question is - Has anyone been put on this - if yes - have you had any success?

Also, has anyone had success with natural therapy - I am on a herb concoction my naturopath makes up for me.

Thanks so much & God Bless

Sammie :-)

new guidelines are anything over i think 3.3 is hypo.......if you are feeling bad i would see a dr that would treat you with your number of 3.5...check out www.thyroid.about.com for the new guidelines and bring those in to your doc xoxo jenn

HI!

Thanks for replying!

THe strange thing is I dont feel bad at all. I think my naturopath has done a great job of doing all that she can to help me feel better and improve my quality of life, I guess I just wondered how other people had been treated and how successful their treatment was.

At this point in time I don't feel that I am comfortable with drugs (believe me it took A LOT of convincing from my naturopath to take Metformin) so is there anyone else who hasn't gone down the "drug" path?

Thanks

Sammie

It's important to have the FT3 and FT4 tested as well. Using the TSH number alone to determine whether or not there is a thyroid problem is ignorant and irresponsible on the part of any doctor who does that. Here is a link to a thread on another board with lots of good info. about this matter:
