Default TSH 3.5 good?

I was diagnosed with Hashimotos thyroiditis and my doctor put me on 25 mcg synthroid. After 3 weeks they checked my TSH again and it is now 3.5. The NP said that that was a good level. I have not noticed a difference in how I feel, which I did tell her. Should my TSH be lower than 3.5? I thought that we should be shooting for around 1 which would mean that we need to increase my synthroid. What do you think? Is this worth calling my doctor and pestering him to up my synthroid?

i think you are right. nowadays most drs who are very knowledgeable will treat a tsh of over 3. but the most imp numbers are your free t3 and free t4. do you have those results??

No, he did not check my free T3 & T4. I mentioned it to his NP AFTER they did my blood draw and she said that she would ask him about it, but I have not heard anything back yet. What is a normal range for the free T3 & T4? Just wondering so I can be knowledgeable (sp?) when I talk with the NP or RE. Thanks!

the range depends on the lab

go to www.thryoid.about.com

seriously free t3 and free t4 ( not total) is the best way to gauge how you are feeling....

lets say for example your free t3 comes back at 2... if the range is 1.5 -5

it would show that you arent even at midpoint range and could possibly use an increase of thryoid meds dependingo n your symptoms. most people feel best when their ft3 and ft4 are at midrange or higher.

and yes most would say a tsh around a 1 is the best xo jenn

I wouldn't say those are a good gage especially when using synthroid. They kind of have to play with it for a little while. For my weight range 100mcg is what the book said but I felt terrible on it. I was just crying and feeling so tired and my mind was cloudy. So she put me on 125mcg and I felt better but still not myself. When she put me on 150mcg I was back to myself. That is 50% more than the recommended dosage for my weight range. So I think you definitely have to play with it a little bit.
