Question TSH and heart-rate, etc.

I just got bloodwork that showed that my TSH has been climbing since the last numbers in Fall. It's just below 3 (I know, not really high). Dr. will treat me by adjusting my dosage.

My real question is, I've noticed in past weeks that I've had both hypo- and hyper- symptoms. Like heart-rate...fast! But then, skin is drier than usual for me in winter, and I feel like a sloth. And yet I don't get cold easily...while those around me are shivering. Perspiration is normal. Hair and eyebrows are fine. I don't understand getting both ends of it at once, any ideas?

You are not alone! :-)

When I'm either hyper or hypo (I alternate between the two depending on the docs' approach to my post-thyroid cancer treatment), my symptoms are never textbook. When I'm hyperthyroid, I feel hypo (no energy, gain weight), but when I'm slightly hypo I feel exactly the opposite of what's expected when my lab results are too low (lots of energy, heart palpatations, don't gain weight).

I've talked with other women who report the same thing, so I have a feeling it has a lot to do with our female hormones conflicting with the typical effects of high or low thyroid levels.

Also, when trying to find the proper thyroid supplement dose, pay close attention to your body. You may feel better when your thyroid levels are actually not at what doctors would consider optimal- it's all about what you the patient experience, NOT numbers in a lab report!

Thanks, good to know I'm not a freak. Dr. bumped my t4 up a tiny bit, and I hope that will do the trick. How I hate this hypothyroidism.
