Hi all I feel like I'm going through hell here. When I started my TSH was at 56 and I had very symptom but the comia (SP) They upped my synthroid from 112 to 137 and added Cytomel 5 mg for ten days. I started to feel pretty good for a few days. But right back down hill. My blood work now has me at .33 and I have more depression and anxiety, I shake and feel like I'm on edge all day. I can't sleep at night and somedays I jusy dont even want to keep going. I just feel like I'm never going to get better.
So when I went to the doctor with my worst symptoms they now put me on Anxiety med's and Anti depressents saying that this is not related to my thyroid. But this only came on with my thyroid TSH mess.
I asked them if they thought that maybe I was to low now but they said no and that they wanted to wait another two weeks to test again.
Has anyone ever had any of these problems? Do you think they drop my numbers to fast. It was only 4 weeks that it went from 56 to .33. I thought that was way to fast. And could the increase of synthroid be causing these symptoms. Or is this really Depression /Anxiety? I should have said that I had a baby 9 months ago.
I could deal with being tired but this depression and anxiety have to go away. It's really over taking my life. This is really making my crazy...
I don't know much about depression, but I agree that this increase in anxiety and shakiness sound just a little too coincidental...I'd certainly suspect the recent thyroid changes.
A TSH of .33 may sound low (but if you were untreated and not being medicated). Many times I've seen TSH levels of less than 0.01 because the thyroid med you take suppresses your own thyroid hormone production (much like birth control pills affect women's estrogen and progesterone levels.) However, going from such a clinically hypothyroid state to a TSH of <1 in a month may be responsible.
At what time of day do you take your Cytomel? If you aren't already taking it in the morning, I would. In fact, I wouldn't recommend taking it any time after 2pm since it can really disrupt sleep.
When is your next appointment?? Are you noticing any other hyper symptoms like increased temperature, sweating, etc. I think handing you anti-depressants was dismissive. Maybe you can be on the look out for a new doc.
I have notices some signs of Hyper. Like the anxiety and weight loss. But I still feel cold all the time. I do however get a warm tingling feeling in my neck and arms which they say is the anxiety.
It is possible that your body will just take a few days to adjust, but if it continues for much longer I would get a second opinion...the fact that your docs don't even acknowledge your thyroid meds/drop in levels as the probable cause concerns me.
I have graves disease, but I also fluctuate. I have mostly been hypo, but for 2 years was hyper, including all thru one of my pregnancys.
I also have been both at the same time! If you are shaky, and notice shortness of breath, heart palpitations, I would suggest finding a different endo, maybe even an RE?
My endo says I am more at risk for Thyroid storm due to the way my body bounces from one to the other and sometimes both.
You need to make sure this is on file, in case you were to suffer from thyroid storm, if the Drs aren't aware of your thyroid issues it could be life threatening.
Hyper also puts more strain on your heart, and increases your chance of heart attack or stroke, so I do strongly suggest you get a second opinion. You may have been overtreated, and your thyroid may have just decided to do its own thing all at once.
What is an RE? I really don't feel like they are listening to me. I feel like they are just passing me off as a person that has anxiety and panic attacks. Which only came on when my TSH went up to 56. I'm so scared taking this anti depressent / anti-anxiety meds. for ever. When in my heart i know that this is mt thyroid.
Believe in yourself! I am sure it is not depression or anxiety alone, but your thyroid. I am so sorry you are so ill and the doctors are unable to help you through. I was there last spring and I thought I was going to die. I am not joking.
There was one poster who has Graves Disease. You could also have Hashimoto's Disease or any number of thyroid diseases. But, what is important is to get you to a doctor who specializes in thyroid disease.
A reproductivce endocrinologist specializes in making babies. Of course they are brushing you off. I have faced similar doctors who were completely casual about my health EVEN WHEN I KNEW I WAS VERY SICK! I am sorry you are facing this.
I replied to another post of yours, but will repeat the same information here. Visit this web site: http://www.realthyroidhelp.com/
Join the forum, and, if even you are so sick you cannot read or write, there will be someone there who will know what is up and help you find answers. Really.
Keep us posted on how you are doing. You have a long road ahead, but there are answers.

So I called my endo doctor on friday and told them what was going on and asked them to fax me my test results that I had done on11/4
They had me lower my synthroid to 112 again and get blood work again in a month.
My results
T4 Total 11.1
T3 total 1.2
TSH 0.33
T4 Free 2.4
Which from my understanding makes me hyper now.
Why? Because your TSH is so low?? Once you start an external hormone (BCPs included) your body's own production will plummet (which is why docs don't rely on estrogen or progesterone test results when on the pill). If you weren't on thyroid meds and had that TSH, I think that would be cause for concern.
Your frees are more important and I only see the Free T4 (without the range). Free T3 is REALLY important to know as it's the most active of the two.

Ditto this! Many doctors tend to want to treat by TSH alone, or they neglect to test your FREE T3. Those are both huge mistakes.
My TSH was at like 0.02 or something last time I got tested.... I've never felt better. Lab results are not the be all, end all of thyroid treatment. Listen to how you feel... if you know something's not right, find someone who will listen
