Default TSH is now 0.6 but T4 is high (12.9)

What does this mean??

A TSH of 0.6 can indicate hyperthyroidism, as can the high T4. So, it pretty much means you are a bit hyper and could probably use a small decrease in medication. (Just a tweak- neither the TSH or T4 looks THAT high.)

Rebecca, how are you feeling? You may want to ask your doc for a free T4 and free T3 test, because the total T4 doesn't tell the whole story (the free tests show how much of the hormones are actually be used by the body, not just how much is circulating). If you are feeling good, you should see if the free T4 is actually too high before adjusting your meds.

If you have Hashi's, having a TSH at that level is actually a good thing; many docs want to "suppress and replace", which means keeping the TSH as low as possible while keeping the free T4 and free T3 in the upper quadrant of the lab ranges.

If your T3 is low, then adding a T3 med along with decreasing the T4 med may be what you need. Something else to consider: If you are on birth control pills, the extra estrogen will inflate the total T4 test, so you would need to see what's going on with the free T4.

Thanks for the responses. I am not on BCP. Also, my dr. had ordered free T4 but my lab messed up. I was so angry.

I feel ok, but I didn't really feel so bad with a TSH of 7.47.
