Default TSH within normal limits just in 6 weeks of taking Sythroid?

I had my first 6 week blood test to see how well the Synthroid is working. My original TSH was almost 8.0. My recent reading was 1.79. What the heck? Can it go down that fast on the lowest dose of Synthroid? I thought it would have taken much longer, especially since I do not feel right. I almost feel the way I felt before I started taking the Synthroid. I have an appt with a new endocrinologist on the 1st so hopefully she'll get me straightened out. It just blows me away that in 6 weeks, my TSH can go from being pretty darn high to being within normal limits. Then my doctor's office said to come in and recheck in 6 months.... um 6 MONTHS? That doesnt make sense! Who knows. I'm so frustrated with this.

Hmmmm, what comes to mind for me is that perhaps you were having a thyroiditis attack during the time of original testing, which has quelled now due to the small dose. Autoimmune thyroiditis comes and goes in unpredictable cycles. Could be now it is inactive or less active.

My first reading with no meds was 26. After taking snythroid for 6 weeks it was down to 10, that was a pretty big difference. 1.79 is a good number, so if you feel good then I would just keep taking the dose you're on.

I actually felt pretty good on Synthroid for a while, several months in fact. Then I felt like crap again. I asked my doc to give me armour and she did. I feel pretty good now.

did you get your T3 checked as well? for me, if that is not spot on, then i am either jittery or fatigued. and synthroid does not regulate T3, from what my doctors have told me in the past.

When I was 1st dx'd, doc said my tsh was over 100! "Practically off the charts" to quote him, exactly. My T4 was like 0.04! Almost non-existant. He started me on 50mcg levothyroxine. 6 wks later, tsh was on high side of normal, & t4 was on low side of normal, but both were still normal. Doc upped me to 75mcg for good measure. Labs show totally normal now. Feelin better for a few months, but still having killer hot flashes. After reading this site, I'm thinkin about askin my doc to change me to armor. Maybe it'll help me, too.

Similar situation for me....4 weeks ago my level was 12.4. Doc put me on 75 mg of Synthroid and decided to test me in4 weeks since he knew I was actively ttc. In 4 weeks my level went down to a 2.3, so mine went down quickly so far!
