Hello everyone, I'm Maria, almost 32, italian/german, currently living with my partner in Oldham, near Manchester, but also lived in Nottingham (hi Helen ) and Derbyshire.

We've actively been TTC since Jan 08. A few months ago I changed GP practice and found a better GP that ran some tests and referred me to a hospital consultant. I am on Metformin 1000mg since May and a cocktail of natural supplements/vitamins (I hope I am doing the right thing!). We are starting on the Clomid end of January '10 with consultant, but he too wants to see me loose a bit of weight first. He said we could only have 3 months of Clomid and maybe 3 months injectables due to my weight. So I am really doing my best to loose a lot so he might be inclined to give us longer (even though been on diets all my life, also have gastric band but made me put on 4 stones!). I am a bit worried about how fertility drugs make you put on weight apparently!

All my friends too have been having babies in the past couple of years and recently and I am very happy for them but also it makes me always sad. Also because with all this thinking about ovulating, charting, taking OPK and BBT every day... I end forgetting about the joys of actually having a baby one day and all becomes a bit of a chore. I hope you understand what I mean.

DANI - Sorry to hear about your m/c! I too have really low progesterone levels so far (<1 in what should be Luteal Phase) and am worried now you said they don't prescribe progesterone in the UK (like Prometrium I guess)... are you sure it is not just your doctor? I have ordered a Nat Prog Cream (Serenity) that comes from the US in case I ovulate and/or get pregnant but it is low dosage.

PINA COLADA - Sorry to hear about your 6 years struggle, and that you have had to go private in the end. I really hope the IVF will work for you! Would you mind explaining how the injectables work? I know about Clomid but not so much about the options after that.

Thanks for this thread Dani

Hey all my names Sarah I'm from Swansea, Wales. Me and my partner have been trying for over a year and a half now and I have had 2 misscariages . I have now been put on clomid after having a operation to check that my tubes are all ok which they are thank god that would just be another spanner in the works if there was but by now i feel like a whole blinking tool box has been chucked in haha. I will let you all know I am actually only 19 but with a huge chance of getting ovarian cancer and dying in my 30's like many of the women in my family have I have actually been urged to try by my dr's as I will be undergoing a hystorectomy in my 30's. So the clocks ticking 10 years I have.

many of you have said you think there is a huge baby boom going on and Id have to say YES!!! omg every other woman has a bumb a baby or something lol.

I really would like to get to know you all and talk to you as I feel I have nobody in life who feels like i do (sorry if that sounded soppy girls)

Love
Sarah P

Welcome girlies xxxx so nice to meet you!!!!

Maria - im not sure about the progesterone as none of the doctors in this area will but maybe its different in your area. My doctor wont even let me try injectibles! It was ovarian drilling and clomid, that it!!! I hope you have more luck with your own doc xx I use natpro cream, doesnt seem to make any difference but it does work for some ladies xxx

Sarah - hello, thanks for joining our little thread, i was only 18 when i first noticed my pcos symptoms, so i know how your feeling!!! Also the ladies in my family have heart problems and both my nan and my mum died at a young age (not as young as 30 but in their 40s) so I dont want to be too much over 30, as i couldnt imagine leaving behind a young child like my poor brothers were when my mum went. SO im here if you wanna chat xxx

Its very hard as everyone keeps telling me in only young ( i was 18 when they started telling me that, im 27 now!!!) and because i had a child at 16 they say Well least you have one!!! I know im lucky but i want one with my fiance, i want to have a baby for us. He treats my daughter like his own but i would love to have his baby. I just cant see it happening any more....kinda given up hope...BUT thats why we're here to give each other hope and advise!!! So i would love to hear of any treatments you guys are having or medication you get so i can throw anything new at my specialist xxxx Thank you ladies for joining our little thread, im glad theres some uk girls to chat too xxxxxxxxxxxx

Sarah, it's great you have come on this site We all have different stories but at least one thing in common, and I think many of us understand that feeling as I too have noone I can really talk about. You can talk to friends and partner a bit about it but cannot bore them all the time, and at the end of the day as they don't have it, they can't really understand. I still get the occasional "i know it's a cliche, but maybe if you stop trying it will happen when you least expect it..." I know they mean well though.

Dani and Sarah, I am really sorry about members of your close family passing away so young. I think that any doctor should understand given your family circumstances that you are TTC young and should give you all the support they can!

I do think that even in the UK, different areas have different ways of doing things, it's all about how much money has been spent by the NHS in different regions... as some treatments are more expensive than others.

I read on here that some women that were not successful with Clomid were given Femara, is it something you could be given by the doctor you think? Are you on 50/100/150mg of Clomid Dani?

I will do an HSG next month just after my periods (might have to take Provera for that). I should have done it this month but am very shy about my body (and a bit scared) and so am preparing myself mentally for next month instead. Has any of you done it? How was it? x

Maria - Acting a bit dumb here, but what is a HSG??? iv had a Lap & Dye, is that the same thing? I had ovarian drilling last year and at the same time they did the lap and dye (flushing blue liquid through my tubes to make sure they were clear........) just wondered if its the same thing? Mine was fine as i was asleep as they had to do the drilling also. DIdnt feel a thing, woke up woozy with a soreish tummy!!!!
We are only allowed to take 100mg of clomid MAX!!! the specialist wont let me go any higher!! he said the max they allow is 100mg. As for Femera, as its a breast cancer drug (i think) they wont prescribe it for pcos as there aparantly isnt enough evidence to suggest it would work!!! So you see im kinda at a stop!! The clomid has worked ONCE back in april, where i got my bfp, but i havent ovulated on it since!! And its almost near the end of my clomid allowance. They wont let me have anything else (like ivf or iui) because i have my daughter already. So unless a miracle happens my ttc days arent gonna last much longer!!!!

Hey Maria thanx for the welcome

My Dr's have never said I was to young luckly and are giving me all the help I can get within 6 months of my diagnosis ive had a lap and dye (which i had last week). Marcia I know what you mean when you say you want one with your fiance, you want to share something special that is a child with him and that is understandable.

I also dont know what HSG is? :s sorry lol xx

Hello girls :-) Hope yu had a good day!

Sorry... HSG (HysteroSalpinoGram) is a Lap & Dye... just my consultant called it a HSG and did not know what it was at first. Sarah, you had yours last week, how was it?

As for clomid, I read a lot of people on here seem to use Soy as a replacement, on the same days like CD3-CD7. I don't really understand what it is or how it is taken but seemed to understand it may not be good if you have a strong estrogen dominance (which I think I have due to very low progesterone) BUT it could be a natural option to look into for some if Clomid is not allowed by your doctor anymore Dani. x

Maria - hey honey, yeah my american ladies keep telling me to try soy, but i cant seem to find it anywhere except online, il have to order some!! The only thing is they say to take double the mg of what you use in clomid so im gonna need 200mg of soy a day, and the ones iv found are 40mg so im gonna start rattling with all the pills lol!!!!
But hey i will try anything once!!!! How are you?? The lap and Dye is fine, honest, you are a little sore afetrwards, when the anestethic wears off but its well worth having!!!!

Hows everyone doing?!?!

My temps are dropping so im hoping AF is on the way so i can try another cycle. I get so sick of my body not co-operating!! I am also so tired, the past two nights i havent had a solid hour of sleep, i have been in so much pain, doesnt matter how i lay i hurt! And i havent hurt like this since the miscarriage so its kind of strange but more annoying as i just want sleep lol!!! I have my next specialist the 2nd of november so not long. Not that theyre any help!!!! lol

Hello :-) I've created a new thread about Fertility Friend on this site as I have been trying to register but you now need to be referred by an existing member... so if any of you is a member already would you mind referring me please?

Dani -
lol, I am already rattling with pills, and I hope it won't cause me stomach/liver problems but I hope not as they are all natural supplements and vitamins, except for the Metformin. I hope you find the soy in a better format though, but worst come to the worst what you found might be ok, maybe it is better to take it in several small doses through the specific days anyway?

Have you been able to sleep ok/ Do you think the pain could be due to your AF coming after the m/c? I hope so, but if the pain continues maybe you should go to normal GP before your appointment on the 2nd November to check it is not something else.

Sarah - Same for you, I hope your AF comes soon so you can start a new cycle and hoping again. If not, maybe you should ask for Provera to bring them on.

Jazzibee - Good luck for the scan, I really hope for you Clomid helps you to ovulate this month! :-)

Thank you for your replies on the lap and dye. You seem to say it is under anaesthetic, but the one I will do will not be... on the explanation sheet they gave me it says it feels a bit like a smear test (ugh!), should last all in all 15 mins, and that I might feel pain and to have someone to drive me home. I have read it helps to take Ibuprofen before doing the exam, so will definitely do that. I also often take Rescue Remedy when I am nervous about situations, so will take that too. At least it will be funny to see the blue pee afterwards :-)

Speak soon x
