Hello, everyone. I haven't been on here in FOREVER, but logged back on to see how everyone has been doing.
I've had kind of a rough year - after a little more than a year of a happy relationship my gf freaked out and then cheated on me. In therapy she revealed that she wasn't really ready to commit so broke up Was very tough at the time, but I'm healing. We're currently working on being friends, which seems easy for her, but is hard for me.
I just got back from an extended road trip which was excellent for my mental health and definitely put things in perspective... I drove from Chicago down Route 66 to LA, then up the coast of California/Oregon/Washington and around the Olympic Penninsula, then back across the country via several national parks and scenic detours. If anyone is inclined to read about it, I have a website: www.travelingblog.com.
I'm actually starting to mull over the idea of having a baby on my own. I am kind of torn on the issue. On one hand, raising a child alone is clearly not the best situation for me or the child, it will make dating MUCH more difficult, and I still have some time... I'm only 30. On the other hand, I'd hoped to have three kids, I'm financially able to do it, I have family who could help, and, most importantly, I realized recently that I'm feeling kind of panicky over my love life because I desperately want to have kids at some point and I'm afraid that I'll never meet "the one" and then it will be too late, and that kind of pressure is really unfair to put on the people I date. I think if I have a baby at least I will know I get to have that experience and can look at relationships just as relationships. Don't know, I'm still in the early stages of mulling it over. If anyone wants to share encouragement or mild concerns, feel free, but if you are considering sharing horror stories or condemnation, please don't. I'm aware that it's not ideal and is not a decision I'm taking lightly.
DrChickon - Colton continues to be super cute. I was half expecting to log in and find out you had a second one by now! What did you guys ever decide about what the two of you would be called? (It was you two who wasn't sure, right?)
B&I - Glad to see you guys delivered safely! I think last time I was on here you were still TTC! Or maybe you'd just gotten a BFP, can't remember.
Good luck to anyone TTC or pg! I'll try to log in more often than once every year or so...
Joey - Nice to hear from you. I'm sorry that you have had such a rough year. That road trip sounds pretty incredible. Re: having kids on your own. We have a friend with a son the same age as Colton and she is a single lesbian mom. She has great support from her family and she's thinking about having her second baby in the next year or so. It definitely makes dating harder (read: she never goes on dates these days, but is thinking about it again now that her son is a little older).... but I do not think of her son as being at any less of an advantage for having a single mother than any of the kids I know with 2 parents. He's smart, loved, has family around all the time...I think if that's you biggest priority, then it's a good option. If I were making that decision in my life, and I was financially able, I would absolutely do it!

Things are good here. We're currently ttc #3. We've been having some health issues with dd. She has always been mildly bowlegged and majorly pigeon toed. Its never affected her walking, running, jumping, etc... But in the last few weeks she's been complaining of alot of pain in her right thigh. So I have an appointment for her to see the pedi on Monday. And she's set for dental surgery in August because she has a chipped tooth that has become abcessed several times. So thats been exciting. Other than that, not much else going on. Been enjoying the summer and just relaxing.
I cant believe you guys are already starting to ttc #3!! I know you'd like a boy this time. Have you thought of doing sperm selection? What methods are you guys using this time around to get pg? I'm sorry dd has GERD. My aunt and bestfriend both have that. Its terrible. Is it something that your dd will outgrow, or does her pedi think she may always have it?

I haven't been here in a while - thanks for the comment on Colton being cute We think so, but then I know we are biased!
My2Babies - Good luck with your 2WW!!
Izy - Colton had GERD as a baby too - it was tough. He ended up on Prevacid which helped. Also, when he had pumped milk from a bottle, the type of bottle we used helped tremendously. The only ones that worked really well for us were the Born Free. I can't believe you guys will be TTC #3 already! We're still trying to figure out how to afford #2....daycare being $1200 a month, we haven't figured out how to afford another $1200 month on top of what we are already paying...

chickon: if we had to pay for daycare it would be totally out but I only work one day a week out of the house and my sis is a block and a half away so we just plan to have one of us home at all times - it certainly makes things more of a struggle but eventually they'll all be in school and since my work is in a school setting - daycare wont be needed as I can pick them up. Once you have two it is almost easier to get a nanny instead of continuing with daycare. Around us family members and friends watch each other's kids for 600-1000 a month and so a few stay at home moms make money that way. Have you decided that you are def having a #2 at some point and who is having the baby?

Izy - Well, we definitely want another one, but the money issue isn't going away. It has become apparent this week though, that Colton would be much happier with a playmate. My dad is here visiting from Tennessee and he and Colton are playing non-stop and Colton is so much happier. We have had so few tantrums and outbursts. I think he gets bored with just us. But, I should find out within the month is I am getting a raise, so maybe that will help.
