Default TTC with Metformin 1000 mg a day?

So you all think 1000 mg a day is enought to help me TTC.. I am currently taking Metformin and Welchol, however im thinking about stopping the welchol and just sticking to Metformin.. Mr and my DB are TTC and very anxious.. do you all have any ideas that can ghelp me speed the process up, and also do you think i should ask my doctor to precribe me with 1500 mg a day or more? Also should I take Prenatal pills now since i am TTC? Thank you ladies and baby dust to all TTC!

Im taking 1500mg a day of metformin and thats all. I just went to the Doc thursday and she uped it. and i dont go back until Dec. She told me that if i dont get preggers off this then my next appointment we would talk about Clomid. So, maybe you might wanna try the 1000mg for a lil bit, and then up the dosage? How long have you been on the 1000mg's?

I have been taking 1000 mg since January 08, i actually stopped taking metformin in April, May and June, but started back up in August... but when i stopped the Met, my AF started and came every month.. now that i started Met back up.. My AF stopped again.. I have read stories saying that you can still O without AF so im hoping this will work... nothing has happened since so im thinking about asking my doctor to up my mg intake... what do u think

I've just started again with the Met, the first round i was taking BCP's which also helped with my period, and then i lost insurance so i stopped taking both and lost my period and in august i finally figured its worth the bills, and went to see a doc. she proscribed me Provera to help induce a period, and was hoping for the metformin to take over and help give me regular periods. I have been cramping since this past period quite a bit, and i'm hoping its ove cramps. But i went back thursday and she uped me, and now i'm just waiting to see if the metformin helps.

I've heard a TON of success with just metformin. and i think you might have lost your period because you stopped taking the met, and when you started it your body is still trying to get used to it. Give it some time. If it worked before it should work again. I would maybe talk to your doctor about uping your dosage. or wait it out. We are very anxious to conceive also. So I'm hoping something happens this time around.

the only thing with that Mickey is that my period started when i STOPPED met.. but when i started it back up it stopped coming again, so i dunno, but i will be speaking to my doctor tomorrow about uping my dosage.. i also wanted to ask her if prenatal vitamins or another over the counter fertility pill like fertile aide will help... so i will see... and good luck to you TTC... baby dust !!!

Hello!
I m also TTC now. Had a failed IVF cycle previously and my Dr started me on Met. However I m only taking 500mg. I have very irregular period with long cycle and no ovulation. Do you think 500mg is enough? Or I should ask my Dr to increase the dosage? Thanks!

hi Jaycee, I think you may need more, as i have read the higher dosage increaes ur chances of conceiving.. I dont know from experience but from reading im assuming 1500 mg or more would be better, did he tell you to take one a day for a few days and then take it 2 times a day?

Hi Ladies,

As far as the prenatals go, my doc had told me to start taking them three months prior to TTC, but if you're already TTC and not on them, I'd start them now. I'm not sure exactly why you're supposed to start them 3 mos early, and I didn't, but that's what she had told me.

And as far as the met dosages, I'm (sometimes) on 1000-1500mg a day, but have been fighting s/e's all along. I know my doc thought that for ME 1500mg/day was the most theraputic level, but its different for everyone. If you're concerned that your doc only started you on 500mg, I wouldn't be too concerned. They may up it in a few weeks or mos, but it can't hurt to ask if you're worried.

Good Luck to all!!
