Hi! my name is Tracy. I am new to this site but not to PCOS. I was told in 1997 that I may have PCOS (I have all the symptoms except weight, I am 4'11" and 110 lbs) when we were trying to conceive our first child. My gyn gave me a 1 page article about it and referred me to a fertility specialist. I took ALOT of met and clomid and none of it worked. I took a break for a few mths and came back and did 1 round of follistim injections and then got pg with twins. After they were born, I tried bcp again but every time I missed 1 pill (I'm terrible about that) I spotted. Long story short, I stopped the bcp and then so did af. So, for 6 years now I have had very few to none periods. All my gyn will do is give me bcp or provera. I have read alot of books and visited alot of websites about PCOS and feel that all these drugs are not very good for me. I have read a few books about using diet, exercise, and supplements to control symptoms and regulate hormones and even conceive. I started down this path Jan 2006 to see what happens and would love to talk with anyone who is trying the same or has in the past.

Hi
While I'm currently not trying to concieve, I'd like to in the future I'm also using natural therapy to get my cycle back to well--a cycle. Im on 2 supplements right now, one is "PCOS" blend, believe it or not, from I think Vitanica, and the other is "Cholarest" from metagenics, which is for my high cholesterol. Both are all natural supplements. The PCOS blend has things good for regulating blood sugar (Green tea and chromium), as well as supplements to help create progesterone, which your body does not make for you if you're not ovulating (Saw Palmetto--and something else, i can't remember). I've been taking them for about 3 weeks, and I've already had a period after not having one for several months. I can also tell they're working because there have been days that I'm "feeling hormonal", when i'd never felt that way before--if that makes sense. I'm also doing this greens supplement thing but that isnt part of my "therapy", and exercising 30mins-1hr/day. Good luck!!
I'm doing this and I've had success at regulating my cycles with it. We're TTC, as well. Last cycle I had a chem PG and m/c and I'm in the 2WW again.
I'm severely hypoglycemic, so the first step for me was finding the right diet. My hypo was so bad that I gained 30 lbs in about 3 months, but at the same time I was starving because my body wasn't processing food right. So, I started on the diet route about a year ago, lost 50 lbs (I'm 5'10" and was 220), stagnated for a while, tweaked it a little more and am now at 168.
I went off BCP in August. Now, BCP is how my former dr had been treating me, and she thought that was the best, but from what I've seen, it may be the worst way to treat (my opinion). New dr suggested met and clomid as eventual possibilities, but recommended that I try treating naturally.
In Sept, I saw a Chinese herbalist who worked with my dr. I started a course of herbs: black cohosh, dong quai, vitex, dandelion and red raspberry, and over the course of about 3 cycles, we weeded it down to only what I need to keep ovulating and regular every month: vitex and dong quai, and I need to monitor my sugar levels.
Of course, I'm also charting and I'm faithful about that, which really helps. This month, I was able to predict exactly what day I O'd, just by the way I felt, and my program confirmed it 3 days later.
I feel like, because we did get briefly PG last cycle, I am successful with this course of treatment, but I know it's an individual thing. I highly recommend seeing an herbalist or a holistic healer - I'm trying to avoid the Western medicine route whenever possible.
Side note: my younger sister is also PCOS and also tiny - 5;4" and 110 lbs, and if she skips a pill, she also experience nasty break-through bleeding. You might check the ThinCysters forum to see if that's common and how other cysters deal with it.
Good luck!

It's good to see I'm not the only one trying for less "drugs" as treatment.
alikat - I've never heard of those supplements but I wrote them down to check into. I'm glad they are working for you. I started vitex a few days ago after reading some cysters have had success. So, we'll see. Are you working with a dr? or are you self-medicating? I know it would have been good to have been on a healthy path before ttc. So, be thankful for the good start. Good luck!
Mandy-J - I'm hoping the vitex will start my cycle soon and then I will be able to start charting then to see what is going on. I don't think I have ever o'd on my own. Thanks for the info and good luck. Hope you hear good news soon.
