It's where they put dye into your falopian tubes to check for blockages. She said it was uncomfortable but not too painful.

To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. I am pretty good w/ pain, but man did it hurt. It was not covered by insurance b/c it was considered infertility but then I had my ob re-code the procedure and submit to insurance under amenorrhea and I then only had to pay the 20% part. I don't think it can help you get pregnant, but it does look to see if the tubes are patent, any kind of blockage, etc.

My Mood: Points: 14,094.46 Bank: 0.00 Total Points: 14,094.46 | I had an HSG, which showed one tube was blocked and the other was partially blocked. Then I had an HSG with recanalization (basically where they blow your tubes open). The HSG was uncomfortable but the recanalization hurt like a s.o.b. But I think that was due to the fact I wasn't properly sedated. Without the procedure I don't believe I would've ever conceived. Sorry I don't know how much either procedure cost, as my insurance covered the majority.

They put dye into your uterus and it "can" clear out any small blockages. I do have a complete blockage in my right tube.
You can still get a bfp with one tube being blocked, if there are two blocked then you are looking to get them unblocked or IVF.
Have you had the HSG done to see if your tubes are even blocked?

Points: 17,651.56 Bank: 1,697.65 Total Points: 19,349.21 | Hi,
I had a sonohysterogram right before I got pregnant this time. It's basically the same thing as an hsg but they use saline and ultrasound rather than dye and x-ray. It did not hurt AT ALL for me. Not even one little bit--and I was so nervous! I did not have any blockages so I wonder if it hurts worse if you have some??
My insurance covered it--I think without insurance they said it would be around 600-700--but would work with anyone whose insurance wouldn't cover the procedure.
For some reason, I don't think it had anything to do with me getting pregnant (as I had gotten pg 2x before), but it's always a good thing to have done in order to rule some problems out (like a blockage).
Good luck!
