    Default tubes tied

Thinking about getting my tubes tied as I have a DS and am getting older and do not want more children. Dr. was talking to be about the Mirena thing, but with the complication of ovarian cysts (and I seem to have some weird propensity to them), I am not going there.

Anyone here have the Mirena IUD or have their tubes tied?

    Thanks in advance.

i think that you should decide what it is what you really want and not what the doctor wants. i have heard that Mirena IUD you have to go back within 5 years or so and have it replaced. so it is up to you what you want done.

You are 999% sure you do not want anymore children? If that is the case personally I would go w/ my tubes being tied. It's very final and there will be no concerns of pregnacy, cysts or any other complications that could arrise.

DH had a child at 18 and had a vasectomy.... a condition to our marriage was he have it reversed because I wanted children and was not willing to give up that dream. You never know what might happen but if you and your partner are finished I would do something permanent that I never had to worry about again!

I don't know much about the both but as far as i can say about getting your tubes tied, i would pm a friend of mine because she had a scary experience.

Try PMing FLUFFYBURGERSNIFFER and she will tell you her experience.

I had my tubes tied in 1991, and just had them reversed November 2. I thought I was sure, and my now X was pushing for it, I wish I had been strong enough to say no. Now I have to worry that the reversal surgery worked and that I do not have to big of a prob. getting preg. since PCOS has reared her ugly head.

I have had my tubes tied at the time of my c~section. Just make sure you are 100% sure you want no more children. I signed my papers in my 7th month of pregnancy, then changed my mind (as I was told I can do up to the day it was to happen) a week before, and reminded the Dr 2 days before. When I was in recovery I was told there was a mistake and they tied them anyways. Now I am saddend by the fact I can't have more children.

I say, if you want your tubes tied, go for it. Don't settle, if an IUD is not what you want. Mirena releases progesterone, and if you wanted a hormone-free permanent birth control, you might want to look elsewhere.

Bottom line, don't let your doctor sideline you. Doctors are *always* trying to talk women out of getting their tubes tied, because they're afraid they're going to be sued if you change your mind (it takes a miracle for a woman without kids to have it done- I'm looking into it, I know). But if it *is* what you want, refuse to be stonewalled. Go see another doctor if you have to, but as long as it's safe for you to have done, there's no reason you shouldn't do it.

If you are thinking about getting your tubes tied, you might want to consider a new procedure called Essure. Another cyster posted this link in another thread, and it looks like a WAY better option than getting your tubes tied. It is done WITHOUT surgery, and has no risk of tubal ligation syndrome. It has NO hormones. It is permanent, so make sure you are 100% sure, because it is NOT reversible.

I looked up the website and I was quite impressed. When we are ready for something permenant, this is on option I will consider.

    Roxie,
I am so sorry that happened. So is there anything you can do to get compensation, after all, it was their mistake! Will they do a reversal for you at their own expense, at least? Have you gotten any legal advise? ((HUGS))

I was going to mention Essure...there's a doctor here that does it. Supposedly there's no anesthesia, they do it right in the office, and it takes about 3 months to be completely effective (in which time you have to use alternate BC). Then they do a scan to make sure the tubes are blocked, and you're on your way.

I would like one more child (yeah, I know...I have almost 3 already and I want more...I'm nuts), but I may or may not decide to go through adoption for #4. I don't know. We're making a big move within a year, and where we're moving to is very expensive. We may not be able to afford another biological child. So I may get the Essure procedure. I don't know. DH said he'd go for a vasectomy if I want him to...we still have a lot of discussing to do before we decide if we're truly done or not.
