congrats on the paperwork, that is a big step!!!
try to enjoy the process, these are my experiences, but there is no right or wrong answer, go with what feels right
- When do you start to get the nursery ready?
we started when the home study started
- When and how do you let your family and friends know?
Once all of our documentation was in we told everyone. Be prepared for people not to be as exited as you, or try to talk you out of adopting and telling you horror stories about adoption
- I feel the excitement that I guess I would if I was pregnant - but I want others to share that joy. Is it similar to what you thought it would be or have experienced?
We were so exited and felt what you described, we bought our baby presents to celebrate each milestone.
- Is the waiting for the call miserable? And how do you cope with waiting?
i was truly blessed that i didnt have a long wait. but once the match was made it was so hard to wait for the placement
we really didnt have much time to adjust to becoming parents though, it was only 5 monts from application to placement. try to get yourself ready mentally and physically, it is going to be hard work
- How have you 'networked' about your search?
we adopted publicly
- Do you have any advice or things that you wish you would have known but didnt'??
i read so many books on adoption, but i didnt think to read about baby care & development, and parenting
enjoy every second wit dh before the baby, things will never be the same again, and youll never get that back, go on a vacation if you can, or even a weekend trip.
