Hello all! I have a quick question...its been a few years, I remember that its safe to take tylenol, but is it safe to take any type of tylenol? I'd prefer to take nothing, I'm pretty 'anal' pregnant, no cold meat, little to no chinese, etc etc, all those things they tell you. Unfortunately, I've been suffering for migraines for years, and while the tylenol doesn't completely get rid of it, it does take the edge of sometimes enough to function. I feel like I'm getting one now, but the only type of tylenol I have here is the 'fast release' kind. Is that safe??
Thanks ladies!

I had major hormone migraines during my first pregnancy from weeks 8-10 and I took Tylenol almost every 4 hours - the pain was that bad! My daughter is a healthy 3 year old To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts.

All you need to take is acetaminophen. Don't take tylenol cold or anything like that contains any other ingredients than acetaminophen. When they tell you it's okay to take tylenol acetaminophen is the only ingredient it's speaking of. The difference between regular strength and extra strength is just a higher dosage (350 mg vs 500 mg). I would not take any kind of 'special' tylenol without asking your doctor first. Just make sure the only ingredient is acetaminophen.

I could be wrong, but I think the "rapid release" just has to do with how the capsule is made, not what's inside. Like, I think it has little holes in it that allows the medicine to release more easily. So it should be fine.

Like the other girls said the rapid release Tylenol is safe to take while you're pregnant. I have always gotten bad headaches that got worse while I was pregnant but unfortunately , Tylenol has never worked for me. The dr said he could give me a prescription but I'm the worst at taking medicines so I sufered through it til they went away. I hope the Tylenol helps you!!!

I agree with them. My ob said no more than 500mg every 3-4 hours though. But, he gave me Tylenol 3 to take for when my headaches or toothaches get bad enough that I want to die. Just can't take both at the same time. One or the other.

I was thinking the exact same thing, I'm almost positive the rapid release is just Tylenol extra strength but the capsule is made so it dissolves faster.

Yep that's exactly what it is. There is no difference in the ingredients just the way its made and how it releases once you ingest it.

Thanks ladies!! I appreciate the responses To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. You currently have 0 posts. Someone said only 500 mgs...does that mean I should only take 1 instead of the normal 2? That's what I did after I posted and saw responses, and of course will continue to to do it, but it stinks having a migraine anytime, way worse when you're already nauseaus To view links or images in this forum your post count must be 10 or greater. I've been taking Tylenol since I got pregnant due to severe arthritis and bulging discs in my neck. Generally, I take between 1000 and 1300mg with each dose. I have found, if you're dealing with chronic pain of any sort, the new 'Extended Release' Tylenol 8hr is a GODSEND. With normal Tylenol I'm lucky to get through half the day without having to take another dose (and that's even with taking up to 1500mg on bad mornings), but with the extended release I'm able to (usually) make it from breakfast to bedtime on one dose. The only exception is if I'm dealing with a horrible headache - in that case, I'll usually take a dose of the regular, extra strength Tylenol to stave off the pounding head. I think the best part of the extended-release formula is actually being able to get a full night's sleep. With regular Tylenol I'd be up at like 4am in a lot of pain - it was horrible.
Still, as much as I love being pregnant I can NOT wait until I can take my Aleve again. I'd forgotten how bad my back/neck can get without it.

I have severe migraines and since becoming pregnant they have increased in intensity. Extra strength tylenol is the only thing dulling the pain enough so I can make it through work. I miss migraine medicine so much right now but tylenol at least makes it so i can function somewhat.
