PCOS (Polycystic ovarian syndrome) is a syndrome, not a disease. This means that it is reversible.
| I am not sure that necessarily follows. I understood that what differentiated a "syndrome" from a "disease" had to do with the collection of symptoms that characterize the disorder and whether a patient has to have all of the symptoms in order to be classified as having it. with a syndrome you do not have to have all of the symptoms . A disease is a health disorder with a more defined set of symptoms. I don't think that just because a health disorder is classified as a disease vs a syndrome - it says anything about how serious the disorder is or whether or not it is reversible. |

I have the other "lovely" symptoms as well (ah, facial hair... ). I'm hoping to get back in the swing of things after this last pregnancy with weight loss, etc.

I am concerned because I was on BCP for like 2-3 years and everyone swore up and down they didnt do anything bad to my body. If anyone knows more about this please let me know. My previous Dr said I am non-IR and even prescribed BCP but I declined because of TTC. Someone let me know.

I'm sure I have type II, which is why my dr refused to acknowledge that I have it. His rn/cnp kept following up with me, and she's the one that confirmed the diagnosis (thought I'm sure she went through him to make it "official"). He wouldn't even do an ultrasound to see what was going on with my ovaries. And because of her understanding and patience and compassion, I credit her with our recent bfp. I love her!!!

Then how come some many of us are on the pill??? | BCPs were the standard treatment for PCOS before Met. became pretty popular. They are not a long term solution, and I believe they just mask the symptoms. Some ladies do swear by them for helping long term bleeds or irregular AFs. You can search the Articles board for more info.
BCPs are thought to cause IR in young girls.
You should be screened for diabetes, insulin resistance (do you have AN?), cushings, fatty liver, high blood pressure, high cholesterol among other things. |
