Default Ugh!

Hello again ladies! I posted a couple weeks ago regarding my weird, irregular spotting. I had been spotting with clots on and off since early January (just after my last "regular" period.)

So, I went to the doctor last Tuesday. He put me on the mini pill (I'm not a good candidate for regular birth control because my mom died of a stroke at 47, and stroke runs in our family.) Well, I started taking the mini pill on Friday. And I finally started a period again! And now... well, now I'm bleeding like there's no tomorrow. The last two nights in a row I have flooded. And practically every time I go to the bathroom I'm passing clot after clot.

I suppose I'm just wondering, for those of you who have skipped several periods in a row, did you find that your bleeding was much worse? Or is this something that I need to go back to the doctor about?

Anyway, thanks in advance for any help you can offer!!

Stephanie

Question

Can I ask what is a mini pill? I haven't had a cycle since Dec and passed a huge clot today and now nothing...

I'm taking Camila.
Here's a link to the product info if you're interested: http://www.webmd.com/drugs/drug-6430...me=Camila+Oral

For what it's worth, my bleeding seems to have slowed down, though I am still having clots. (I always pass clots during my periods... I just don't remember ever having quite this many.)

The mini pill contains progestin only so it's a bit harder to regulate yourself on than traditional combination bcps that contain estrogen and progestin(progestin is a synthetic form of progesterone) but, they are likely to be the best bet for you unless you want to try depo provera due to your family history of blood clots. Make sure you are taking it at the same time everyday or as close as you can get and give it 2-3 cycles before you give up. Sometimes they take that long to even things out. I know it kind of sucks but with your family history the options are limited and traditional bcps just aren't worth the risk. Good Luck and I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info! I've been taking the pill at the same time everyday, and my doctor had told me it might take a while for things to regulate... I supoose I was just worried about the number of clots I had been passing, but that seems to have slowed down considerably. I'm really thinking it was so heavy because of the build up during the months I didn't have a period.

I'm going to stick with this! Hopefully, this plus some diet/exercise will help get me back on track!

I 'm sure you were very freaked out when you saw the size of them. I'm glad that they are better now. Stick with that pill and good luck.

I didn't get my period for close to a year, and the day it came back was an absolute nightmare! I bled through half a box of super absorbent tampons in only a few hours...20-30 minutes per tampon. It terrified me, but it slowed over the next couple of days, and things eventually got back to normal (well, as normal as they can be with me, lol).

I'm sort of in the same boat and came here looking to see if I should be worried or not.

I haven't had regular periods for the last 2-3 years. I finally got diagnosed with PCOS in February and my gyn had me do 10 days of Provera to induce a period (the last one I had was in November and was very light ). Two days after I was done with the Provera, my period arrived and was HEAVY with lots of clots for 5 days straight. On day 6 (Sunday) I started my first pack of BCPs (Alesse) and my period should have tapered off. Now I'm 10 days into the pill pack and I'm still bleeding pretty heavily, passing lots of clots, and there's no sign of it slowing down.

The gyn did say it would take a few months on the BCPs for my cycle to regulate, but I'm not sure if this is what she meant? I don't really want to have to go back to see her, but I don't know if it's good to keep bleeding this heavily with no end in sight.

I finally stopped bleeding after 10 days. Honestly, you might want to call your gyn just to be sure. I had pretty much decided that if I hadn't at least slowed down some after day three, I was going to call. It may well just be your body making up for lost time, but better safe than sorry! Hope that helps!

Happens to me all the time. The clots are actual lumps of womb lining, apparently. It's all perfectly normal. If you haven't had a period or a heavy period for a while, there's probably just a backlog. It should ease off after a few days.

You may find that the mini-pill just doesn't suit you. When I was put on dianette (which i think is similar) i was immediately hit by what is described in my notes as a 21-day dianette-induced haemorrage. i was using two nighttime towels, end to end, from navel to the small of my back and had to change every 20 minutes day and night for three weeks. it just doesn't suit everyone, mate. give it a while, see if it settles down, but if it doesn't, go back and say so. they should take you off it immediately.

Now on Avandamet, which is a wonder drug. Can't recommend it highly enough. Ask your doctor for it if you're worried about Metformin side effects.

I also have ME, hence the "tired" user name.

Contemplating hysterectomy but have to lose weight first.

It does seem today like it's less than the last couple of days. I think it could be an issue with the Alesse pill since it is a "low dose" pill.

I guess it could just be a lot of buildup that is finally coming out, but wow my lining must have been really really thick! I haven't had a really "good" heavy period in at least 2 years, so I guess it's possible.

Thanks for the replies! Fingers crossed that it continues to taper off!
