Okay so...it's pretty evident that I can not tolerate BCPs... they turn me into a complete messed up psycho, and when I get off them, it takes my body at least a year to recover.
My doctor suggested Mirena, an UID (intrauterine device).... I'm hoping it will stop the rollercoaster rides of hormones I've been experiencing.
Only problem is this... I'm a really small person. I'm too skinny, I wear kids shoes, I'm really short, my uterus is tipped, I've never had children and my uterus is like....extremely tiny...so I'm guessing I'll likely have complications with the device itself, such as Pelvic Inflammatory Disease, infection, pain, etc.....
What I REALLY NEED RIGHT NOW is something that will keep my hormones steady.
If it were up to me I'd want to stop ovulating altogether. My hormones go up, and I feel euphoric, then they plummet, and I become seriously suicidal. It's enough to make me feel bipolar.

I have had wonderful luck with the Mirena IUD. I had finally found a BCP that I could tolerate and ended up with a blood clot so I had to stop taking them. I got it early last February, bled for most of the month and part of March and have only had one period since then. I am not a small person, at all, but I don't think that you would have a problem with it. The Mirena is soooo small, only about 1.5 inches long. I also have not had any children, and the only problem I had was that the insertion of it was quite painful. I had cramps for the rest of the day, but none after that. I can't imagine that your doctor would recommend it if he thought you would have complications with it.

the Mirena IUD and I love it!!!
BCP's make me completely insane too. I took then ONE time for ONE month, and I will NEVER take them again. They made me gain weight and loose my mind...I was crying over everything.
I spoke with a nurse who recommended Mirena IUD, and she swears that there are no side effects. I say, sign me up...unfortunately I don't think that IUDs are covered by insurance (but don't quote me on that...I hope I am wrong)!
Thanks so much, Cysters....but...I guess my primary concern is relief from the perpetual PMS/PMDD that I suffer.
Not exaggerating at all here, but I suffer from horrific PMS/PMDD for about 4 weeks before I start, the week of, and 2 weeks after my period ends...... then I'll have about 4 days of feeling great, physically and emotionally.
After those 4 days that I so dearly hold onto, I begin the whole cycle again. 4 weeks, week of, 2 weeks prior, then 4 days of relief. Over and over.
I'm desparate for something that will smooth out my hormonal rollercoaster rides....that's my number one concern, and what REALLY upsets me is that BCPs seem to make those horrific symptoms WORSE!
Could Mirena possibly put an end to the horribly miserable hormonal surges/declines that basically destroyed my life? heh

I really think that the Mirena would help with the hormonal surges because it releases a constant amount of hormone into the body all the time. No stopping for a week of no hormones like with BCP's. I was very nervous about getting my Mirena, but now I love it and plan to keep this one for the 5 years that it can stay in place and if I am not TTC by then, I will have another one put in.

the Mirena IUD and I love it!!!
Camisdo, the mirena IUD does not necessarily stop ovulation for all women. It primarily works by making the uterus hostile to implantation and changing cervical mucous. I don't know how it would affect emotions.
I had the same problem with all combined bcp, plus depo (the worst mistake of my life), and even the Ring. My last shot here is Cerazette, a minipill I had to order online. Supposedly it stops ovulation without the estrogen. There is also the implant Implanon, which releases the metabolite of desogestrel, etonogestrel. It does stop ovulation for most women. Mirena contains levonogestrel I believe, which some studies show is more androgenic than desogestrel.
For me, if cerazette doesn't work, I'm getting a copper IUD and taking spiro again...I'd rather bleed another 3 years than get into raging fights with DH and be dead-dog tired.
