Well I have found that magnesium tablets have helped me in the past with my cycle, that was when I was more regular than what I am now. I use to have a cycle every 35 days some times my body would go crazy and I would skip 2-3 months but when I started taking magnesium supplements I never skipped months. But then l I started to pile the weight on and my symptoms went into over drive !! LOL so now I'm taking Vitex since yesterday to see if they help any and I have bought magnesium oil so I can use it in the bath and things.
Hated BC and use to spot using them all the time, met was a big no no after bleeding for 3 months !! LOL
But my PCOS symptoms are simple really I don't suffer from acne only when I'm due for AF and then I have a major break out !! I don't have excess hair, my hair is thin and very fine, my periods are all over the place and I don't ovulate but I am a big girl ! LOL
At the moment I am using Metformin and trying to loose weight/exercise.... but really these are to help with my biggest 'symptom' of my irregular periods and possibly none ovulation..... I was taking Metformin and lost over 40lbs to concieve my daughter but am now at the same weight I was back then and have more regular cycles (32 days usually) but still nothing....
At the moment my other symptoms are not a big deal for me...... I use tweezers on my hair on my chin and face and DH puts up with my terrible mood swings lol.... my period pain usually means I take one day off of work motnhly at least....
When I was first diagnosed I was very depressed and used poetry to out these...I found that as I lost weight I felt a lot better there too....
I use so many herbal remedies I rattle. I think Holland and Barrett probably fund an extravagant lifestyle in the South of France, from the profits they make out of me....
I use evening primrose (my GP recommended that years ago, believe it or not - she only wished she could write me a prescription, she said!); agnus castus ('vitex'); Co Enzyme Q10 (recommended in the PCOS Diet Book); multivitamins with glucosamine (because I'm a veggie - glocosamine for joints as I'm running again), green tea (anti-oxidants and also many studies say it helps weight loss), and cinammon a couple of times a day, with food (so effective at evening out your blood sugars it probably outperforms prescription drugs, apparently).
Dietwise I'm pretty strict and boring, as a rule - I cut out the alcohol, down to a couple of glasses of wine once a week and only chocolate on special occasions although I eat raw chocolate whenever I want.... the food is wholemeal, 'real' things - high organic, high raw - am aiming at 2 meals a day raw food.
Also, I find if I don't exercise regularly and pretty hard, the symptoms don't stay under control even if my diet is clean, without a slip. So for me, is a combination of the herbal stuff, diet and exercise and if I let any one of them slip, the symptoms come back fast. Of the three, food seems to have the most effect on me, followed by diet. I think my herbal supplements would be a total waste of time and money IF I didn't work hard on diet and exercise - on their own, they are probably doing nothing. I need all 3 things under control to see slow progress. But yes, if I do all three - herbs, diet, exercise, I have regular (for me) periods. Once or twice a year, even when I was thin, without me eating well and exercising - every 5 weeks, if I do the right things. For me, weight loss and energy and the frequency of periods is the only clue it's working. I don't seem to have insulin resistance but my PCOS symptoms, left alone, are very severe.

I was told to try taking evening primrose that would help me and my stressful AF! My metformin hasn't been too much of a problem. I just feel sorry for dh when i have AF i can be so horrible
I am definably going to try this evening primrose!

im only on fertilty meds as they said i should concentrate on getting preg first as most meds for my symptons are either long term or u cant take them if u are ttc.
They mentioned going on " mini pill " after ttc ing as my testostorone was high (not sure if they meany slightly high or well above average or whatever) I would also like to try spiro/vaniqua as my hair keeps getting worse and possibly laser/electrolyis, i would need to look into it nearer the time
Im worried about insulin resistance as i dont think ive been tested and i have had a few symptons i think but ive heard its an expensive test and metformin is hard to get etc so i will need to ask my doc about it when i go next
pina xx
