| Me and my girls Join Date: Feb 2002 Location: Scotland ![]() ![]() ![]() | I thought that since the board is a bit quiet these days I'd pop this as a sticky at the top so that any UK and Irish Cysters can add their stats. I'll put mine first and use some headings, but feel free to add headings as you wish, any info about yourself could be useful to someone else. Especially any medication or action you have taken to combat symptoms of PCOS, whether you want to contact other cysters in the same situation as yourself, or even just a resource at the top of the board. If it proves popular we'll keep it, if not, I'll just unsticky it!

Join Date: Jul 2001 Location: Essex ![]() | Name: Ross(boys name but completely female) Age: 32 Family situation: Married to Cyril for nearly 6 years, mum to Corey 7 and India 4. Work full time for the Sure Start Unit(Central Government) PCOS Symptoms: Ironically only discovered I had PCOS after having my daughter. Gained a lot of weight after her birth, and never lost it, a friend suggested I get tested for it as she has it and I had similar symptoms to her, expecting it to be ruled out, I was surprised when they said I had PCOS. Periods were always regular until the last few years when they range from 28 - 45 days. Excess hair, mood swings, memory problems, overweight, not sure if IR? Worst thing about PCOS: Where do I start, all of the above. Meds used: none, to scared to try Met, worried about side effects and the effects on my daily life, hey I have to work every day, and I can't afford to be feeling ill. NHS or private: NHS, Mr Vineker, who was brill, but haven't seen him for a while, more pressing issues to deal with. Action taken: Not a lot, hoping to TTC # 3 in the next year, haven't ever had problems getting pregnant, so will cross that bridge when I come to it. PM or Email: Happy for any Cysters to PM me, although once again, busy life, so might not get back to you straight away.[b]

Mutant hair everywhere else, irregular periods, multiple cysts on both ovaries, dark skin patches, weight gain, IR and acne. (Could explain why they run so fast!!) Worst thing about PCOS: Not knowing what it was or that I had it, just growing up with all this weirdness that nobody else had!! I was actually pleased when the doctor doing the scan confirmed PCOS. Medication used: I was given 1500 Met and Dianette about a month ago, i've started the Met but am unsure about the Dianette. NHS OR PRIVATE: NHS, I have always been reluctant to go to the doctors as they blamed everything on my weight, I used to be on the Pill but stopped when I was 21, since then I went once to join a new surgery and again for a booster. I finally plucked up the courage to ask to be tested for PCOS in July 2003 after reading about it in a woman’s mag. My new doctor just looked at me, nodded and sent me for tests. There was a delay as my results got mislaid but it’s all fixed now. Action taken against PCOS: I’ve been a gym member for 2 1/2 years, I low carb as much as possible and have really cut down on my drinking (no lager allowed, just a couple of glasses of Red wine). I have managed to loose 5 stone, but it has been a struggle and my weight can fluctuate by 10lbs in a week. Currently weighin at 193lbs but would love to be 150lbs (i'm 5.6). PM or Email: I' happy for any cysters to email or PM me

| Should say Messy Hair! Join Date: Apr 2004 Location: London area UK ![]() | Name: Sarah Age: 31 I've been diagnosed since 1994, since then have dealt with various symptoms but mainly; weight gain, depression, hirsuitism, acne, water retention, fatigue, dizziness, mental fogginess, loss of memory, infertility, hair thinning, skin tags and am now checking for IR. Is it any wonder we are so fed up?! At least we know what it is now but boy can it be a struggle getting anything done medically! I'm a mixture of NHS & Private, although I need to find a decent endo asap because of scary IR symptoms. Also diagnosed with reflux, which may account for some of the scary IR symptoms too......heck, who knows. Am not on any meds as I am too scared of side effects / or if they work, having to come off them one day and deal with it all again anyway! Use dto be on SSRI's some years back, maybe that's why I'm reluctant to use meds unless I have no choice. I have had a major sense of humour failure in recent weeks as i am now "officially fed up" with PCOS in terms of not getting support (grumble, grumble, gripe gripe!). So I'm looking in to starting a PCOS support group in my area. Anyway - nuff from me - onward and upward! Love Sarah xxxxxxxx ![]()
