| UK Cyster Join Date: May 2004 Location: England, UK ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Name: Michelle Age: 23 Family situation: hhmm I still live @ home with my parents & my sister! PCOS symptoms: I didn't start my periods until I was nearly 17 and ever since then, they have been very irregular. Also acne on my face, chest & on my scalp which is painful too and excess weight. Have very slowly started to lose some of the weight but going to the gym every day is tough but now I know I have to or it'll get worse is good motivatoin. Worst thing about PCOS: Having bad acne when you're an adult isn't much fun, it dents my self-confidence quite alot. Also costs fortune in make-up trying to cover it up! hehe! Being over-weight makes me quite depressed, although I don't consider myself huge, I'm only a size 14/16. In your average fashion clothes shops here, they very rarely have many nice clothes in size 16. It really frustrates me! Medication used: I only started taking Dianette this week. I'm very sceptical about it after reading up alot about it. I'm seriously considering stopping medication & just not bothering but it's not advised so I'm not too sure what to do. NHS or Private NHS: I've attended my local NHS surgery for a few years complaining of very irregular periods, acne & weight gain but a few different MALE doctors just cast it aside and said that as I got older, my periods will get regular & I should eat more healthy (when I already do!). Basically, I felt like I was wasting theit time because of this. I went back again a FEMALE doctor quite a long time after. She was very supportive & explained exactly what she thought my problems were & exactly what she'd be sending me for tests for, she went into great detail. I was so releaved that I was being taken seriously and it wasn't my imagination or something I'd done wrong (well, you do begin to wonder all sorts of things when nobody seems to be able to help, don't you?!) PM or Email? Feel free to PM me, then I'll give you my email address. I do have MSN too & am on that most evenings! I'd like to tak to other ladies with the same problems ![]() X Michelle x |

| Registered User | Name: Suzanne Age: 24 Family Situation: Single. Still living at home with my parents. With these house prices I don't think I’m ever going to leave!!! PCOS Symptoms: Irregular periods, excess hair, overweight (especially around the middle), lethargy, PMT! Worst thing about PCOS: Where do I start! I hate being overweight but am trying to do something about it. My periods are only regular because I take the pill. When I wasn't on medication they were about one every 5 months and when they do come they are extremely painful and heavy. Medication: Tried all contraceptive pills and have finally settled on Yasmin which seems to be working ok. Tried Met but didn't get along with it. NHS or Private: My previous GP was a complete cow! She refused to believe I had anything wrong with me and told me to go away and lose weight and my periods would come back. I was finally diagnosed at a well woman walk-in clinic when I was 17. I have now changed GP's. Things are still not great but they are ok. However, I sometimes feel that he would give me more support if I were TTC instead of just trying to cope with PCOS. I was diagnosed 6 years ago and haven't even been referred to a gynaecologist. I'm looking into seeing a Private gynaecologist soon. PM or Email: Either would be great. It would be great to hear from any fellow sufferers. |

Going to try a low carb as all else has failed. Medication: Just started on Yasmin - not sure if that's the right thing because I am now the moody ***** from Hell! Because Gary has had a vasectomy (about 3 years after having John) it didn't really bother me but a couple of years ago I got to the stage where I wanted to know why. Email or PM: either. Worst thing about PCOS: Not getting pregnant and looking like Chebacca Medication used currently: metformin, although I've been on it for 2 years and it's done sweet FA NHS or Private: NHS. My docotr is fabulous, my endo is bl;oody useless and has refused to treat me unless I lose 1 more pound (I've lost 3 stone in 2 years) PM or Email? Anything! Any other information: Geoff and I have become so disilussioned with any treatment for my condition that we have stopped totally. I know this may sound a bit drastic but I've had enough of condesending doctors and unsupportive nurses (One told me to 'buck my ideas up' when I said I couldn't make an apointment because of a family emergency). So we are being approved to be adoptive parents.

PCOS symptoms Multiple cysts on both ovaries diagnosed by scan Pelvic pain Some facial hair Depression/mood swings Worst thing about PCOS Lack of sex drive Medication usedNothing NHS or Private NHS - I was referred to a Gynae by my GP, who thought I had endometriosis, and saw a Gynae from the Borders General Hospital (Scotland) last week, who diagnosed PCOS. Action taken against PCOSStill dealing with the dianosis! But I do follow a low carb diet, because I have hypoglycaemia, so I will stick to that more rigidly. Might look into some alternative remedies too. Anything else? I am covered in bruises, which I can't account for, and they seem to be worse in the second half of my cycle. Does anyone else get this? I don't mean bruising easily, so much as bruising from no apparent cause. Trudie |
