Name: Tory
Age: 26
Family situation: Engaged to a really wonderful man who is about as understanding as anyone ever could be! Very excited about getting married, hopefully next year.
PCOS symptoms: I'm of a normal weight, but have just started to get acne again after years of lovely skin on Dianette. When I'm not on the pill I have no periods at all. Lots of cysts in both ovaries. Mood swings - what a list!
Worst thing about PCOS: The acne, and the worry about the possibility of not being able to conceive.
Medication: Dianette, and 1500mg of Metformin every day.
NHS or Private NHS: NHS, and it's been ok. However I'm trying to get referred again to talk about my spots. GP really, really unhelpful, verging on rude!
Action taken against PCOS: I exercise, and I take my pills! And lots of research
PM or Email: PM's smashing.
Any other info: I'm also plagued by cystitis, and have IBS. Yuck. Nothing seems to work down there!

Default My Info

Name Adri
Age 24
Family situation - Very much single!

PCOS symptoms - It all started when I had a one off period that lasted a month. Went to Dr. was transferred cos scan lovely sight to see loads of cysts and I am classic Textbook, no periods(without the BCP making them come), excess hair, depression, overweight blah blah blah. u know it all.

Worst thing about PCOS putting on weight and the depression/ constantly tiered.

Medication used Started on Dianette, then tried Progesterone Cream stopped working after a bit so back on BCP (Yasmin for past YEAR)

NHS or Private NHS - Referred by NHS GP but went Via Bupa. I did have one scan where he told me there was nothing wrong with my ovaries and it was all in my head, BUPA then scanned me internally and found a boodiful mess going on in the womb etc.

Work; Work full time with children with learning disabilities.

PCOS Symptoms; No periods for months on end, and infertility.

Smile welcome

Hi Kathryn,

Welcome. I hope you find this site helpful and interesting as I do. I tried angus castus some years ago but I didn't really think it helped. But good luck to you with it.

I have a wee girl who'll be 1 on wednesday after trying to conceive for 11 years. She's our miracle baby. I conceived 3 months after taking metformin. So there is hope.

Take care

Name:Julie

Age:29 (its the last year of my twenties - scary!!!!)

Family situation: Single (partly due to low self asteem from years of PCOS symptoms I think)

PCOS symptoms: Excess facial and body hair, absent or infrequent periods, excess weight round middle, skin tags, acne, thinning hair, mild depression and anxiety, constant tiredness

Worst thing about PCOS: thinning hair, large stomach in comparison to rest of body, masses of stretch marks from years of yo-yo dieting, worry about health and fertility

Medication used: Xenical for weight loss, hoping for Met soon

NHS or Private: NHS - Symptoms since puberty, saw my GP at age 21 for tests who said there was nothing really to worry about I wasn't particularly bothered, happy to have no periods. Symptoms got worse, read more and more about PCOS. Saw gynie about 9 mths ago, gave me Pill and told me to lose weight. Pill stopped due to High BP & headaches, gynie said there was nothing else they could do for me, cried in the consultation, miraculously this lead to referral to the Endo. Endo was great, very positive. I lost 2 stone (doing WW) from seeing the Gynie so he was happy but seemed preoccupied with giving me weightloss drug, Xenical (it reduces absorbption of fat from diet). Currently waiting for all my hormone tests back and hoping for Met.
It's such a struggle to get to see the right people in the NHS and then with 4 months between appointments, it all takes so long..... Still grateful for free treatment though!!

PM or Email? PM - I've never been PM'd!!!!

Action Taken: Regular gym attendence and upping the exercise done, continuing with Weightwatchers - 3 stones to go

Hello to all, hope to do some more chatting, this website has been a godsend, I no longer feel like a freak!!!!!

PCOS Symptoms: weight, infertility, irregular period which when they do come are excruiatingly painful. Did have acne but Met has at least sorted that out.

Worst thing: Infertility and heavy painful reluctant periods

NHS or Private: NHS and Private - NHS sucks!!

Action taken: trying to diet (WW) and do more excercise. Decided to try for IUI but need to loose some weight 1st

PM or Email - either

Any other info: Stick up for yourself and never give up. Lean on the people who are special to you - they are going through this as well - no matter how much they "stand back". From what I have read on this site - there is always hope... even though sometimes this may seem a very long way away..
