Name:- Kimberley
Age:- 22 Location:- Nottingham UK
Family situation:- Been with my boyfriend for 5 years
PCOS symptoms:- Irregular/heavy periods, hair in face/stomach/moodiness/carry weight on stomach
Worst thing:- Not being able to lose the weight as quickly as non-pcos ladies/the facial hair
Medication used:- Metformin
NHS or Private:- NHS
Action taken against PCOS:- To lose some weight.
Family situation: currently living with my best friend in nottingham. my parents are still in wales.. no kids, obviously. annoyingly my boyfriend of a few years lives miles away.
About me: I'm currently in my final year at nottingham trent university doing ba hons photography. the dissertation hand-in is looming. I love music, galleries, literature, tea and cooking. I plan to move to berlin in a few years time when I have the money.. I'm looking to maybe start my own magazine or something when I'm out there (if you haven't been there, go!). I don't want to just be a photographer.. I think that would be tough going. I'm also hoping to have a 'normal' relationship with my boyfriend, things have always been so complex.
PCOS symptoms: started with crippling period pain when I was about 14 then other symptoms developed. have always been curvy.. you know, larger hips and thighs (apart from when I had bulimia) so thought nothing of that. then it started to go crazy.. weight gain specifically around the belly and hirsutism. diagnosed around 2000.
Worst thing about PCOS: weight and the idea that it'll take a lot of work to shift and hirsutism (face and neck, under my belly button and upper back.. ugh!)
Medication used: firstly dianette (taken off it after a few months, made me feel awful), then tried alternative remedies like saw palmetto and NAC. now I take mercilon - a low dose BCP, multivitamins/minerals, omega369 and currently milk thistle (which is proving really great). doctor refused to prescribe met.
NHS or Private: NHS but am searching for a better doctor.
Action taken against PCOS: alternative remedies, gym at least 4 times a week and attempting GI diet. lost half a stone before christmas.
PM or Email?: PM is fine.
Any other information: should have done this a while ago!
Family situation Living with my boyfriend, we have only been together for 1 year and 8 months but we use to date when we were 14 years old.
PCOS symptoms Haven’t had a period in 14 months, have been spotting on and off though for the last three weeks. My hair is thinning around my temples and on top of my head. I have loads of skin tags in my armpits and under my boobs. I have a fine line of hair developing on my belly.
Worst thing about PCOS Not having a period.
Medication used Nothing at present just milk thistle, magnesium and Primrose oil.
NHS or Private I am on an 8 month waiting list on the NHS, haven’t been back to the gynaecologist since I was diagnosed 10 years ago.
Action taken against PCOS I am on a healthy eating plan plus I have been swimming 3 times a week, I have now joined a gym to help.
PM or Email? PM me day or night.
Any other information I can be a grumpy old buggar !! ha ha
Family situation: Married to Simon since 2004 - I'm a teacher, he's a civil servant
PCOS symptoms: Diagnosed in 1999 after 18 months without a period. Other symptoms now include - ability to put on masses of weight whilst eating a healthy diet and an inability to then lose that weight. Extra hair in unladylike places, acne on my back, absent or sporadic periods, usually accompanied by nasty cramps. Had blood tests which showed high Testosterone levels, then a ultrasound showing a whole bunch of cysts in assorted sizes on both ovaries.
Worst thing about PCOS: Depends on the viewpoint - the weight or problems concieving - might be considered one and the same...
Medication used: On Metformin - 3000mg per day - enough for a small elephant, which is appropriate for me...
NHS or Private: Started with NHS but after inconsistant care, then a house move which put me on the bottom of the list for a different area, am now going Private - Prof. Atkin is fabulous, and I made more progress in 4 months with him than 4 years NHS...
Action taken against PCOS: Lots and lots of weight loss. Heading for a target of 17 stone from 22 - half way there! When I arrive I get my Clomid!
PM or Email?: Don't mind either way!
Any other information: Not that I can think of. Cheers, ladies!
Family situation Young(ish), Free(ish) and therefore single! - Oh and no intention of starting a family!
PCOS symptoms Acne, Boils, Hirsuitism (not sooo bad in some places), excess weight, periods irregular and extremely heavy and painful when they appeared (none now due to implant! Phew!)
Worst thing about PCOS Luckily not so worried about TTC - so probably the weight gain/extreme hunger and acne.
Medication used Got a contraceptive implant but not using anything else at the moment.
NHS or Private NHS and happy to stay that way.
Action taken against PCOS Never quite know where to start - diets - attempts to eat healthily - previously tried metformin - take long term antibiotics six months on/off for acne.
PM or Email? PM me day or night - or email - any which way!
Any other information I'm a pharmacist - but I'm chucking all that in eventually (or should I say hopefully!) Currently studying full time at Edinburgh Uni to convert myself into a Geologist! I just like jobs ending in 'ist'
Family situation living with partner and my 18 year old daughter
PCOS symptoms Acne when a teenager. Hirsuitism excess weight, periods irregular and extremely heavy and painful when they appeared, but have discovered if I stay between 9 and 10 stone its controllable.
Worst thing about PCOS depression when I was first diagnosed, I did not know anyone else with it, and did not know how to sort it out.
Medication used Slow release metformin
NHS or Private NHS.

Hi My Name is Alison And heres a few details about me
Age 34
I was 21 when i got diagnosed with pcos but had had he sysptoms since i was 16 I lost count of the pregnancy test i kept having from 16 to 21 as my periods were so irregular they kept thinking i was pregnant till i saw a different doctor who looked at other syptoms and sent me to the hospital where i saw the gynacolgist who did a scan and found mutliple cyst on my ovaries and it wasnt till another year later when i was 21 that i had a wedgery section which was supposed to help with the sysptoms when they finally diagnosed pcos and said unless i wanted to get pregnant the wedgery section should help and that i should also try to loose weight which i did. Which helped for a few years my periods were still iratic but i guess i learned to live with it. The hardest thing of all was living with the hair as people stare. I maried a great man who had already got 3 kids. who in the end moved in to live with there dad and me. Which was great but deep down i still wanted a child of mine own. They have all grown up now and leading there own lives. My middle step son and his finace and having a baby and heres me still not able to without help. I shouldent feel envyious but its so hard. But we have decided to get help and my gp refered me to the specilist at the hospital and i have an appointment with the fertility clinic tomorrow at 2.
My P.C.O.S. Syptoms are
Difficulty with conceiving, Excessive hair under my chin and all over my body, irregular cycles, heavy periods, multiple cysts on my ovaries.
My irregular periods got better when i lost a stone. Plus my gp put me on dianette to help my periods and the hair which it seemed to do a litle with the periods but not a lot for the hair but we have decided to try for a baby so i have stopped the dianette. But since stopping it i had put on over 7 ibs which i had started to loose it so frustrating has anyone else had that problem.
Medication.
Im not on anything at the min for my pcos but 2 years ago i was also diagnosed with a form of arthritis and i am on an anti malari tablet for that. Plus as i said above i was on dianette till recently.
I have an appointment tomorrow at my local hospital to go to the fertility clinic to see about getting help to concieve which scares me as i want a baby so much i just want to get help and i worry about asking the right questions and getting things sorted so i wnt online and found this site so im new to soul cycters and hope to get some help and advice.
My GP thinks that i may be prescribed met or clomid or maybe both. I will just have to see.
