Family situation: I'm american married to my wonderful Englishman of 5 years living just outside of London. Have been trying for children for 5 years as well and still none. PCOS symptoms:Overweight, excessive facial hair, hair on belly and now starting on my back! Haven't had a period in the 5 years I've been off the pill. Small discomforting pains in pelvic region.
Worst thing about PCOS: The excessive hair and complications of getting pregnant! (All I've ever wanted to be was a wife and mother.)
Medication: Metformin for nearly 2 1/2 years. Doctor says he won't prescribe over 1000mg as that's the recommended dose. It's slow release so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. He put me on Reductil for weight loss which was helping but after a few months was getting severe chest pains so had to go off them. Otherwise my doctor just told me last week no pill will help me. Wonderful, isn't he? Been off the pill for 5 years
NHS or Private: NHS but want help in how to go private as we don't know what to do!
Action taken against PCOS: I spent hundreds of dollars on laser hair removal about 6 years ago that never worked. Trying to stay away from carbs and exercising. (someone needs to start a gym for women with PCOS so we can all help each other out!) Lost 2 stone last christmas while on reductil but when taken off it all my weight came back. Ovarian drilling March 2007
PM or Email?: either
Any other information: Was diagnosed about 13 years ago. Was able to maintain a good weight but still slightly overweight until I went off the pill when I married my husband. We've been with a "specialist" on the NHS who has no regard for individuals. He wanted none of my history from the states to begin with and anytime I go to him with new information or questions, he always negates them. He won't help me try anything else but has had me on Metformin 1000mg and won't change it. Last appointment last week told me my age is starting to factor into fertility help so we can start an IUI program but it will most likely fail because of my weight. I didn't want this. I want to work on my weight first. Then went to GP who says he can refer me to another specialist/hospital but will have to start all over. Am looking for a doctor/GP/ NHS or private who will passionately help me treat my PCOS aggresively. My husband and I both want children.

Just new to this today. I'm 27 years of age, Married to Brian for 1 half years and have been trying for a baby since getting married. Was onthe pill for 5 years before I got married and stopped soon after my wedding and ever since then my periods became more irregular and non-existent. Before I went on the pill my periods were always regular and working like clockwork. Just been diagnosed today with PCO's. Feeling quite down about it and scared that I might not be able to conceive. I'm hoping that this site will help me through this.

Thanks.. I have to be honest, I am feeling a bit better and more hopeful reading this forum, I just felt like my world had ended yesterday and today. This site is definately very encouraging. I just have to get stuck in and lose about 1.5 stone and get into a low carb diet. Thinking of going on the atkins again. I hope all is going ok for you,
Family situation: Been with darling boyf ("His Lordship", on account of posh accent ) for 3+ years. We met in Spain, he was my boss at a restaurant. Moved back to the UK now. Father sadly RIP in 2005. Mother, sister and rest of family live in Scotland, a 2hour hour flight from where I am.
PCOS symptoms :Irregular or no cycle, excess hair on face/neck, weight issues (Although I've lost 35 pounds in the last 6 weeks, from Atkins and being ill.) depression and dermoid cysts. I had my left ovary removed in 2005 due to an 11cm torted cyst. That sucked.
Worst thing about PCOS: Having to worry about fertility at this age!
Medication used: Metformin (1000mg) and thyroxine.
Action taken against: Weight loss, lots of Doc's appointments....
PM or Email? PMs fine.
Any other information: Living in SW England, Leo, Scottish originally, umm.. (pause for) work for large telecoms company as thier youngest manager, like forensics shows, horseriding, funny people and trashy mags/TV.
Love this website, it's made such a huge difference to know I'm not alone with my problems, and that some people out there do understand.
lovely to meet all the new ladies you will so love sc, everyone is so friendly, and there is so much to learn there is a link to the newbie roadmap in my siggie for you
Family situation: Been with my partner for 10 years, married for 5, trying to conceive for 4.
PCOS symptoms: I'm fat, hairy and infertile and irregularly have periods, sometimes I'm lucky and have 2 a month (whoop). I was finally diagnosed 2 years ago after having several scans and a hyCosy.
Worst thing about PCOS: Infertility, without question.
Medication: I was on Metformin, but I stopped taking it.
NHS or Private: Both, I prefer NHS. I started off going private, but I really didn't get along with the limp lettuce that was the specialist, so I swapped to NHS and he's a bit better. Haven't been for around 18 months, trying to lose weight before I go back and go on Clomid.
Action taken against PCOS: Dieting, hair removal cream, ignoring it and getting on with my life (well, trying to)
PM or Email?: Don't mind, probably PM as long as it sends me an email to say I have a new message
Any other information: I want to be a Mummy really badly now, my friends are now having their second, and here we are, still 'trying' (I hate that phrase, don't you?). I know it seems silly that I've come off medication, but I'm a bit of a hippy, I hate taking pills so it makes sense for me to try and do things naturally, and that means losing weight mostly, difficult as it is.
