Wink Been away but now back again!

Name: Karen

Age: See siggie

Family situation: Just me and DH most of the time now, DS No.1 left home a while ago and has DS who's almost 2. DS No.2 still sleeps here now and again!

PCOS Symptom: Coming up to menopause. Very irregular, very heavy, lots of cramping, and length varies from 5-12 days. insulin resistance diabetes, obese, skin tags, facial hair, hypertension, mega fatigue, mood swings, dark skin patches.

Worse thing about PCOS: Being obese and everyone assuming you ate all the pies!!!

Meds: See siggie

NHS or Private: Was living in UK when diagnosed on NHS at Addenbrookes Infertility Clinic, Cambridge. Had A.I.H. through these guys and fell normally for DS No.2 as discovered I only ovulated every 4 years - every leap year to be precise!

Action taken against PCOS: Having lived with this for 25yrs now I have tried almost everything. As I have recently been diagnosed with Metabolic Syndrome, have decided that I have to do something even more drastic than eating healthy foods to lose the weight and keep it off once and for all!

PM or Email: Email

Any other information: Was Rx Duphaston to regular my periods at the age of 11! Was replaced by Microgynon 50 in 1978. Stopped taking this Oct 1979 after my wedding to fall pregnant. Weight shot up, put on 5st in 5 months and no menses. Had laparoscopy 1980 and Rx Clomid and told to keep temperature charts and mucus tests. Moved house and was referred to Addenbrookes Ferility Clinic, Cambridge in 1983, was Dx first visit. After Post-coital examination, also discovered had hostile cervical mucus, gyn also tested DH semen and, afterwards injected the remainder past my cervix. Had ovaries scanned on days 14-16 2 months later to check follicles and found out I was 6 weeks pregnant! As I said in my siggie I was one of 3 women to be first dx with PCOS in UK and we all fell pregnant the same month, although brilliant for us, unfortunately it put the research back in UK until other women were found!

Name : Leeanne

Age : 23 (24 in june)

Family Situation: Been with husband since 25/12/2005 got married 11/10/2008, No kids as yet.

PCOS Symtoms: Hair growth on face, chest, stomach. Depression, greasy hair Light or no periods.Mood swings.Obesity.

Medication: Metformin 2000mg a day, Dihydrocodine 30mg (for sciatica + lumbago) was on dosulepin 150mg a night for depression but dr changed that to Amitriptyline 100mg a night.

Worst thing about pcos: Being told that if i dont loose weight i will never be able to have kids(this is what gyny said in sept 08) I so badly want to be a mum.

Nhs/Private: Nhs - originally started seeing gyny in 2005 had a scan(internal + external) told me there was nothing wrong with me just having irregular periods and that i should lose weight( i was 17 stone at the time), went to gp in may 07 as i'd put on more weight and still having irregular periods, got a gyny appt in july 07, i was scanned external and was found to have pcos, by this time my weight went upto 21 1/2 stone at my biggest, i was sent to dietican which didnt seem to help, went back to gyny sept 08, was weighed at 19 stone, which i thought ive done pretty well to lose it, gyny told me he didnt want to see me until i got down to 13 stone when i could go on ivf, wasnt happy stormed out of the office. Was put on metformin 1500mg on 05/01/09 so hopefully ill get somewere.

Pm/Email: either
