Family situation: Just me and DH most of the time now, DS No.1 left home a while ago and has DS who's almost 2. DS No.2 still sleeps here now and again!
PCOS Symptom: Coming up to menopause. Very irregular, very heavy, lots of cramping, and length varies from 5-12 days. insulin resistance diabetes, obese, skin tags, facial hair, hypertension, mega fatigue, mood swings, dark skin patches.
Worse thing about PCOS: Being obese and everyone assuming you ate all the pies!!!
Meds: See siggie
NHS or Private: Was living in UK when diagnosed on NHS at Addenbrookes Infertility Clinic, Cambridge. Had A.I.H. through these guys and fell normally for DS No.2 as discovered I only ovulated every 4 years - every leap year to be precise!
Action taken against PCOS: Having lived with this for 25yrs now I have tried almost everything. As I have recently been diagnosed with Metabolic Syndrome, have decided that I have to do something even more drastic than eating healthy foods to lose the weight and keep it off once and for all!

Any other information: Was Rx Duphaston to regular my periods at the age of 11! Was replaced by Microgynon 50 in 1978. Stopped taking this Oct 1979 after my wedding to fall pregnant. Weight shot up, put on 5st in 5 months and no menses. Had laparoscopy 1980 and Rx Clomid and told to keep temperature charts and mucus tests. Moved house and was referred to Addenbrookes Ferility Clinic, Cambridge in 1983, was Dx first visit. After Post-coital examination, also discovered had hostile cervical mucus, gyn also tested DH semen and, afterwards injected the remainder past my cervix. Had ovaries scanned on days 14-16 2 months later to check follicles and found out I was 6 weeks pregnant! As I said in my siggie I was one of 3 women to be first dx with PCOS in UK and we all fell pregnant the same month, although brilliant for us, unfortunately it put the research back in UK until other women were found!
Action taken against PCOS: low carb diet, natural remedies
