Name- Hazel

Age- 25

Family situation- Single

PCOS symptoms- Irregular periods, very heavy and painful. Excess hair. Moods. Being tested for diabates type problems

Worse thing-Periods, risk of diabetes (my whole family have it)

Medication- A new cream to reduce facial hair, transenamic acid. Tried the pill but cant take any cos it makes me poorly.

NHS or Private- NHS but they dont know anything about this. Kept telling me I was 6 months pregnant by an ex cos I didnt have a period for 6 months. Been going with all the symptoms since 13 yrs old, but not diagnosed til 24. I have to suggest things and then they look at it. Crap!

Action taken- Lost 4 stone in a year. I go to the gym and exercise and eat healthily. Ive changed to wholemeal bread etc to try and help.

PM or Email- PM atm.

Hi all, New to the site so here is a little about me ....

Name Rachael

Age 26

Family situation Married to Richard, Have been together for over 5 years and married for 18 months. No children (yet), 1 hamster millie.

PCOS symptoms Irregular and heavy periods, very painful periods, obese, Diabetes. Had scans to confirm I have cysts on my ovaries.

Worst thing about PCOS Not being told anything, not understanding enough about it, and worrying that I wont ever be able to concieve my own child.

Medication used Currently on Metformin, but this I was on this for my diabetes before PCOS got diagnosed.

Action taken against Trying to lose weight, but really struggling with this at the moment, I managed to lose 7lbs but now come to a stand still. I am obese (but I hate that word!!)

PM or Email? Either is fine with me

Any other information Well .... .... basically, I was diagnosed with diabetes in Jan 2007 and put on metformin, I was refered to a dietician and on my first appointment she mentioned PCOS, and was asking about my menstrual cycles. I told her that no I was diabetic and no one had mentioned PCOS, she apologised and it was never mentioned again.

In Feb 2008 me and my husband moved to his home town in the north east, and joined a new doctors. By this time me and my husband had decided that we would like to try for a baby, but first I wanted to lose weight and find out how this would affect me regardng my diabetes. So we went to see my new doctor to discuss this with him. He was not concerned by my weight (which I found odd) and said he would send me for blood tests and a vag scan, and ultrasound to confirm PCOS. He said as soon as he had the results we would discuss it further.

About 2 weeks later I went for my scans, and the nurse confirmed I had PCOS and the doctor would send for me to discuss my results. So I went back to the doctors and he told me yes you have PCOS, here are some leaflets, any questions, So I mentioned about my original reason for going, having a baby, how much weight I should lose, what about my diabetes. And all he said was the only risks with diabetes are you can have a big baby, and said we should just start trying.

I went home feeling very confused and upset because he had answered none of my questions. I personally feel too big to healthily carry a baby, so why would a doctor suggest this to us?

All this happened back in Mar / Apr 2008 and since then I have done nothing but just bury my head in the sand really. We have put off trying till I lose weight but I am so down and depressed that all I do is eat and slip off the healthy eating!!

So I am here now for help and advice and a little guidance.

This year I am determind to know more about my condition, lose the weight and hopefully next year be ready to start trying.

xx

p.s sorry for the long post, just needed to get it all off my chest.

Thumbs up

Name: Shiv

Location: London

Family situation: In a wonderful relationship right now

PCOS symptoms: First diagnosed at roughly 14 due to excess hair... rapid weight gain and periods disappearing then cysts found on ovaries with U/S. I have near enough every symptom PCOS can give you...

Worst thing about PCOS: infertility, weight gain, excess hair!!!

Medication: Metformin 1000mg p/day

NHS or Private: NHS atm

Action taken against PCOS: Trying to eat healthily, I also go jogging every other day monday, wednesday and friday.... for an hour each time and sometimes more.. also do the odd work out video every now and then.

PM or Email?: Either one xx

Any other information:
was on Dianette for a while, made me pile on a whole leap more weight... stopped taking it and started taking xenical and metformin... was young and dumb and didn't take it properly... couldn't deal with the side affects so I came off both... a few years past and now I'm back on metformin.. but only 1000mg this time rather than 2000mg but I'm sticking to it and take it everyday.. slipped up a couple of times when I have not been at home and left tablets at home but other than then I've been pretty good with it.

Was the above quote to me? lol... A little confused.... if so....... Yeah my Alarm is set to 8.30pm and it comes up with "MET...FOOD...NOW" lol... The only time I have missed taking the tablets is if I have stayed at a friend/family members and left tabs at home... but I now keep an extra packet in my bag!! So It's not possible to forget.... lol.. unless I forget my bag.. which is nottt likelyy.. (holds my life) looool
