PCOS symptoms- Irregular periods, very heavy and painful. Excess hair. Moods. Being tested for diabates type problems
Worse thing-Periods, risk of diabetes (my whole family have it)
Medication- A new cream to reduce facial hair, transenamic acid. Tried the pill but cant take any cos it makes me poorly.
NHS or Private- NHS but they dont know anything about this. Kept telling me I was 6 months pregnant by an ex cos I didnt have a period for 6 months. Been going with all the symptoms since 13 yrs old, but not diagnosed til 24. I have to suggest things and then they look at it. Crap!
Action taken- Lost 4 stone in a year. I go to the gym and exercise and eat healthily. Ive changed to wholemeal bread etc to try and help.

Any other information Well .... .... basically, I was diagnosed with diabetes in Jan 2007 and put on metformin, I was refered to a dietician and on my first appointment she mentioned PCOS, and was asking about my menstrual cycles. I told her that no I was diabetic and no one had mentioned PCOS, she apologised and it was never mentioned again.
In Feb 2008 me and my husband moved to his home town in the north east, and joined a new doctors. By this time me and my husband had decided that we would like to try for a baby, but first I wanted to lose weight and find out how this would affect me regardng my diabetes. So we went to see my new doctor to discuss this with him. He was not concerned by my weight (which I found odd) and said he would send me for blood tests and a vag scan, and ultrasound to confirm PCOS. He said as soon as he had the results we would discuss it further.
About 2 weeks later I went for my scans, and the nurse confirmed I had PCOS and the doctor would send for me to discuss my results. So I went back to the doctors and he told me yes you have PCOS, here are some leaflets, any questions, So I mentioned about my original reason for going, having a baby, how much weight I should lose, what about my diabetes. And all he said was the only risks with diabetes are you can have a big baby, and said we should just start trying.
I went home feeling very confused and upset because he had answered none of my questions. I personally feel too big to healthily carry a baby, so why would a doctor suggest this to us?
All this happened back in Mar / Apr 2008 and since then I have done nothing but just bury my head in the sand really. We have put off trying till I lose weight but I am so down and depressed that all I do is eat and slip off the healthy eating!!
So I am here now for help and advice and a little guidance.
This year I am determind to know more about my condition, lose the weight and hopefully next year be ready to start trying.
xx
