| Registered User Join Date: May 2007 Location: Ireland ![]() | HI everyone! So relieved to find this site - my consultant basically said "you have PCOS - work harder at losing weight, look it up online, oh and here's some drugs". Name Nina Age 24 Family situation Single PCOS symptoms Diagnosed last week by consultant on the basis of blood tests, but am awaiting ultrasound next week. Had previously been on Dianette for 4 years for irregular/frequent periods and a mild acne, but decided to give no drugs a try a year ago. Put on 2.5 stone in 3 months (size 8 to size 16 ), developed severe acne, facial hair, period only came twice in the year.Worst thing about PCOS weight gain and acne - and being treated like the weight gain is all my own fault like I ate McDonalds every day instead of the Low GI 1000calories I really eat. Medication Just finished 5 days of Provera to induce period. Will begin Dianette when period comes. Want Metformin but doctors not keen to prescribe it. NHS or Private Private, but went Public because the appt. was sooner!! Action taken against PCOS Low calorie GI diet, aerobic exercise one hour daily, waxing! Seeing a dietician next week. PM or Email? PM Last edited by nando : 05-18-2007 at 04:08 AM. |

| hide your chocolate! Join Date: May 2006 Location: Near Cambridge, UK ![]() | Hi ladies can I join the UK club please ?I've been visiting this site for years but only just started getting involved on the boards cuz I could really do with some buddies! I actually travelled all the way to the USA to meet up with a PCOS buddy from this site (and I'm scared of flying too!) So that should show how much I value my PCOS pals LOL! Name: Zoe Age: 32 Family situation: Been with my fiance for over 16 years (we met when I was 15!) We just finally bought our 'dream' home after living in a little bungalow for years! We are engaged but haven't managed to make it down the aisle yet, mostly due to my feelings of self consciousness from my appearance (that and not wanting to look like Hagrid from Harry Potter in a wedding dress!) We'd love more then anything to have a child (have been TTC for 10+ years for #1 ever since I graduated from university), but realise a child of our own is getting more and more unlikely and so are now looking into fostering/adoption. PCOS symptoms: Well how much room do I have to write?? Obesity (gained ALOT of weight suddenly over a year after coming off bcp's) and finding it very HARD to lose weight despite very low calorie diets, low carbing and excercise etc. Having monster bleeds which last for months....was hospitalised over xmas as the pills which usually stops them didn't work. Being anaemic constantly from losing so much. Then going without periods for months. Excess hair.....enough to make chewbacca jealous! Insulin disorder, extremely hypoglycemic, if I don't eat very often I'm a shaking angry confused pile of jelly! Ovary pains and horrendous cramps with or without a period. Not ovulating very often/ if at all. Problems with skin rashes and hair follicles. Skin tags & dark patches. Severe clinical depression at times, problems with mood swings. Regular Migraines...every couple of weeks lasting a few days at a time. IBS (which I've been told can be associated with pcos). Days of extreme nausea which I associate with hormonal disturbance. Breast problems Nipple d/c and tenderness.....and I could probably go on with more.....but I'll stop now for fear of sounding like a hypochondriac! Worst thing(s) about PCOS: Not able to have a much wanted baby, waking up every morning feeling like a monster and not wanting to socialise because of it. Feeling alienated from other women, like family and friends don't understand no matter how much I try to supply them with information. Medication: Well for the quick version see my sig, but I'll type it out anyway! I tried metformin but was allergic to it.....actually got very poorly (sorry if TMI but my wee went black and my blood sugar so low it was dangerous). Tried to conceive with one round of clomid.....total bust should have tried more in hindsight but I wanted to lose weight first to give myself the best chance. Not a good move....when I went back they said the rules had changed and wouldn't give it to me till I'd lost even more weight. Tried Vitex (agnus castus) but it was while on it I had my horrendous unstoppable bleed.....so think I'll avoid that in future. So now I'm going to try some other natural remedies.....cinnamon, liquorice, apple cider vinegar...etc coupled with weight loss and hope it helps. NHS or Private:NHS (did go private for a while, proved an expensive waste of time!) Action taken against PCOS: read above! Lol PM or Email? Well I don't think I've got enough post count to receive PM yet but either way is fine! I'm always happy to make friends, especially those in the same boat! ((( Big Group HUGZ to the UK PCOS-ers!!))) xxx Lots of luck to all who are TTC xxx

PCOS symptoms Well, I'm hairy (face ) and fat.... Oh, and a really irregular cycle Worst thing about PCOS Waiting for a diagnosis Medication none yet NHS or Private NHS Action taken against PCOS Veet cream ... it smells quite nice! PM or Email? pm please Any other information well, I feel like a fraud cos I'm not diagnosed yet - but I will be astounded if it is negative (I am obese, hairy, weird cycle, spotty.... all the "usual") so just waiting for the bloods to come back (next week ... eek) Oh, lastly - men suck!!! Just cos I'm fat and hairy does NOT make me a freak or a weirdo - I am actually nice and you would benefit from knowing me PCOS is a medical issue - would you treat those with a broken leg like they have the plague...! |

| Registered User Join Date: Apr 2004 Location: South Yorkshire - United Kingdom ![]() | Hi I am Clarise....31 and a long term PCOS'r. I have flitted in and out of this place a few times but have just spent a bit of time reading some UK posts (I hail from sunny South Yorkshire) and felt that I had to respond as it is sometimes just soooo nice reading that you are not alone with this condition and the wonderful array of side effects it affords you! I am on a bit of a downer at the moment, facial hair being my major bug bear right now, as well as weight gain and feeling so tired all the time but the hairs...man, it makes me crazy and really stops me living the life I want to lead at times. I appear to be on a really low dosage of metformin compared to some of you ladies (500g) and will be bringing this up at my next meeting with my gyno. I am married but keep a lot of this stuff to myself, my partner knows about it and I think he pretends not to see it sometimes for my sake but I find it hard talking about it with anyone really, especialy the man that I want to find me attractive and sexy and thats not gained from discussing who can grow the best beard is it! My mum is my major confidante, god bless her. I want kids - desperatley. I want to loose weight - and am constantly trying. I want a smooth face - and obsess about it daily. I guess am I am no different to many of you and am grateful that you are out there...somewhere! x |
