Family situation: i have a husband called Stephen, no children as of yet only two cats.
PCOS symptoms: irregular periods, overweight, pelvic pain and spots
Worst thing about PCOS:being fat and two weekly periods with the nasty pelvic pain.
Medications used: Metformin 500mg three times a day.

Action taken against PCOS: I am losing weight counting the calories which seems to be working. I am doing more exercise, and i am trying to not get stressed particulary with my poor husband.
PM or email: either works for me
Any other information: It is so nice to be able to go on this forum and chat to others about the same problem, and you all seem very nice and approachable.
Just thought i'd have a quick post to say hi to quite a few of us U.K sufferers.
I have today had yet another appointment with a consultant at the royal london hospital. This time they have managed to lose all my blood tests, scans and notes but have had some progress in that they have decided that they will give me metformin and duphaston to try to bring my non existant periods back.
Ever hopeful of the chance to have a child i will try this for the next six months and if this doesnt work then will make another appointment to try something else.
Nice to see there's so much encouragment out there for us all and a place to be able to get on one about all the pitfalls if we need it with people who really understand what you are going through.
Sometimes i feel like i could throttle people if i hear one more time "you will fall pregnant just like that once you try properly!"
Chin up ladies and hope to speak to some of you soon.
Hi girls..
Hope you all don't mind that I am not British or Irish..but I have a question..
My good friend/neighbor is Irish (I live in the highest Irish populated area in New York)..anyway she is coming back to NY this week from Ireland and has asked me if I need something for my 3month DD from Ireland..she insists on bringing me back stuff for her..she says they have the best clothes and things for babies in Ireland..I really don't need anything now..but I would like your advice on 'must have' baby items in your countries for the next time she or any other one of my friends goes home..
I am lucky that I have access to European products..I have family in Greece, DH's sisters live in France and Switzerland, and my Irish girlfriends..it is so obvious how superior the Euro products are than the things here in the US..so I am sure baby products are great too! let me know what would be good things to ask for..
Thanks alot..hugs from across the Atlantic...
Rania & baby Jennah

Hi guys! I've been lurking for what seems like ages now, since my doc first suggested sending me for blood tests to check hormone levels at the beginning of the year, but thought I'd introduce myself :-)
Name: Donna
Age: 21
Family situation: Engaged to James for what seems like a million years :-p. Planning to marry after I graduate in 2009, hopefully try for a family after that.
PCOS symptoms: irregular periods that got more and more irregular over time, overweight, excess hair (I'm the only woman I know that has to wax her stomach before getting the bikini out in the summer, and I have more hair on the bottom of my back than my bf!!)
Worst thing about PCOS: how amazingly difficult it is to lose weight, the excess hair, and never being able to tell why my next period is gonna be when I'm not on BCP.
Medications used: Dianette, possibly changing to spiro later on since my doc doesn't want me on Dianette for too long.
NHS or Private: NHS
Action taken against PCOS: Losing weight (1 stone down, 2 to go but it's taken me all summer).
PM or email: either is fine

Welcome to the site Donna, nice to see new people signing up all the time, I've been diagnosed since 1999 and have just started taking met after coming off of the bcps at christmas and having no show of a period at all. If you have any questions at all we're all such a friendly bunch and there are loads of knowledgeable people here to help. Take Care x
Family Situation: Have been with my DP for four years and we live together in Kent.
PCOS Symptoms: Obesity, Excess body Hair, Infertility and Mood swings. Under Active Thyroid. Skin Tags
Worst thing about PCOS: Infertility after TTC #1 for 3 years and suffering 3 x M/C. ( 2 in a previous relationship) 6 wks - 8wks - 5 wks
Meds: Metformin ( 850mg x 2) Thyroxine ( 100mg x 1) Plus vitamins.
Have not been consistent with the MET though as suffered awful side effects ( MET Gut) but going to try again and stick with it.
NHS or Private :
Was originally diagnosed over 10 years ago as original problem was Acne and the excess hair. As the years have worn on the Acne has actually got better, although I still get the odd painful spots on my jawline.
The excess Hair is still there and probably worse than it ever was. ( Face, neck, arms, tops of thighs and stomach) I have a very understanding DH and I am fortuante enough to be able to afford laser treatment for the hair on my neck and face. But you do have to have regular top up sessions as even with laser removal it can grow back if not kept under control.
My main problem is the Infertility and I am currently under a Fertility Consulatant at local hospital but I am afraid they will not try me on any fertility meds until I lose more weight. I was over 21 Stone when I started about 18 months ago, I was prescribed Xenical to help with weight loss but Yuck. No Thanks!!! I am nove hovering around 19 stone but it has been a long hard slog and like a lot of people I turn to food as a comfort.
I belong to a lot of online groups but have never visited this one so here I am!!
Action taken: See above but I after a few months of mucking about and feeling sorry for myself I am back trying to lose more weight with a new determination. Re Starting with MET and follwoing a low carb?GI diet Plus going back to my local female only Gym after not going for 2 months.
PM or Email: I am online most days as work from home so whatever suits.
Any other information: I have a regular period ever calender month, I had a recent scan of my ovaries that showed no cysts and a recent HSG that showed my tubes were clear. My most recent blood tests on CD3 were normal. Next Hospital Appointment Nov 2007 to get results fomr more blood tests and to show I have lost more weight!!!
was given the label pcos in 2007.
knew there was something up for a very long time ie,hair in places only reserved for animals and the werewolf in us!
hair loss and i mean oddles of it.
irregular periods or none at all for years.
depression and very bad pms, well i just though i was losing it!.
unexplained infertility after nearly two years of ttc.
yup,ive got it.
been placed on clomid and have found the meds slightly hard to take ,side effects sometimes bad,and leaving me feeling down and depressed every month, just hoping and praying.
fingers crossed just one day,ill see those two little blue lines.
Worst thing about PCOS: Feeling like a zombie for 99% of the year.
Meds: None at all...my gyno/endo reckons i don't need anything. (i'm sure if i could swap bodies with him for the day he'd write me a prescription in the blink of an eye!)
NHS or Private : NHS, unfortunately. Although, i am planning on visiting the Pcos clinic in Denmark shortly. The Dr's are specialists in the condition and hopefully a wee bit more sympathetic than the ones i have encountered in the UK.
Action taken: I'm trying to lose two stone and i've finally quit smoking! Been having aculite treatment for the excess hair and after just 6 sessions on my neck, i'm now hair-free! On to the next body part!
PCOS symptoms: Have trouble keeping weight off, hairy chin that I am forever plucking, and hair loss.
Worst thing about PCOS: Hair loss!! I used to have thick hair.
Medications used: Estelle pill
NHS or Private: Private at the moment through my work health scheme
Action taken against PCOS: The Estelle pill stopped the hair from falling out (still waiting for it to grow back though!!)
PM or email: either
Any other information: I'm not totally a UK Cycter just yet ... I'm planning on moving to England for a while early next year. Most of my family are in Dorset, including my sister, but she is coming home soon. Getting a bit nervous about it already as it's a big change! Would love to get to know some of you UK and Irish Cysters
